So been going through some childhood stuff and finding a lot of old hero cards of drivers my dad picked up for me.

I've been reading the stuff on them and with 20 years of future knowledge laughing at how wrong they turned out. For example they were excited for a winning season for Ted Musgrave in 1997. And my personal favorite is the one from Steve Parks rookie year. It says "This Steve Park #1 Pennzoil Monte Carlo hero card might someday become the auto racing equivalent of baseball superstar Mickey Mantle's rookie card".

I love hero cards. I framed some of my favorites and lined the stairway to my basement with them, and the others I put in a scrap book. I never turned them down, even the drivers I didn't like.

How long have they been around? I have a set of the 1988 Maxx cards.

Fwiw, I happened to find this card at grandmother's house nearly three years ago.
You can see who it belongs to now. :p (I asked for it, of course.)
It was my grandfather's. He was a huge fan of The Intimidator, and also had countless diecast #3 cars to his name. I have two of them now, and the rest are spread out among the other members of my family. I also have a dozen or so 1990's diecasts including the '96 Monte Carlo signed by Terry Labonte that I posted on here a while back. If you guys would like to see my little collection, let me know.

I bought at least a box or case of Maxx and all of the others from 1988 through 2016 when they were released. I bought the first few boxes of Panini after Press pass went under and then called it quits. I have at least one official autograph card of every driver that signed one through 2014. Are they worth anything? Not much money wise but the experience and fun I had collecting them by opening box after box and pack after pack was priceless. I have tons of Nascar stuff packed away in storage.

Easy on Steve Park. That guy was a pretty good driver but just somehow had the worst luck in accidents. The last accident was one of the most horrific crashes in NASCAR I've ever seen. Ranks up there with the Bristol wall opening wrecks.

Oh I know his career was derailed by those, but they were making some pretty bold claims for a rookie.
