The fan was for "cooling" but really it was there to create downforce. Won the 1978 Swedish GP with Niki Lauda and never raced again.

Interesting letter from Jochen Rindt written to Colin Chapman in 1969, expressing concerns over the light weight parts.

The following year Rindt was the 1970 F1 champion, but also dead. Killed in September in a Chapman car.
 
I loved F1 in the 1000 horsepower era but I felt like it got really watered down really fast as soon as the 2000s hit.

I can't believe there's not a single motorsport that allows manufacturers and engine builders to do whatever they wanted to win.
