One more time, it appears that there is big interest in buying the old North Wilkesboro Speedway, but this time, things seem to be more in order. Who knows if this time the track will be sold, but the enthusiasm that has been generated is big. The selling price is listed as close to 12 mil and it is said to be another 2 mil to get the track back to shape for racing and other entertainment venues. Though it's clear that NASCAR will not race at the old historic track again, there have been letters of commitment from several other sanctioning bodies. Other uses for the track is said to be flea markets, carnivals and music concerts. The needed action will have to come from the residents of Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro. If they want this to happen, they will need to help in everything, but a good reception is a good first step. As an old fan of this track and a former season ticket holder, I can only wish them the best, but another track in this area vying for local racing is sure to prove a bust. If there is going to be racing at that track, it'll have to be of a touring series at best, and the more the merrrier. This push is the strongest yet since a group tried several years ago with the "save the speedway" challenge. That group is still alive as a web site and is throwing all their weight towards the new group and will help in any way they can.
Stay tuned for more details. Good luck guys.
