Here we go again with complaints about the Chase. Jeez folks, you really do need to get over it. Before the chase, the system we had wasn't from the beginning of NASCAR and there was a time when the Richard Petty would get more points finishing last than some driver of "also ran" status that won the race.

One only has to realize that every team and driver uses different strategy now than they used to years ago. Who's to say that Jeffy's lead would be the same had they been using the same scoring system? Remember, other than a win, the most important thing for each and every race during the first 26, is position, position, position. It's cause more teams to points race than in the past when it was mostly the points leader that did this dastardly deed. Now we can see teams that are in 8th, 9th and now 10th position points race regularly if they don't have a chance to win.

My opinion is that the Chase is probably one of the better ideas that Brian France has come up with, but it could be too little too late, especially with the direction that he's trying to take the series. But it has created a whole new class of points racers which is something that I totally detest. But with the cost of being in the Chase, I would be doing the same.

Well, I weren't complaining but no I still don't care much for it. All this talk about how the stick and ball sports have a playoff and Nascar could benefit as well is not recognizing the differences between them. Why don't we do the same thing in the NFL. Add up the number of points each team scores for the 1st 12 games. Then the top 10 point scorers would be in the Chase for the Super Bowl. Out of those 10 teams the team that scores the most points in the last 4 games is awarded the Championship. Now doesn't that sound crazy! But, that's what Nascar does. Instead the other sports recognizes the best team by who beat whom week in and week out by elimination.
Yeah the Cuppers have stunk up Bucsh this year and last but it still seems a better way.

Yeah what BP said. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I think the Chase has proven itself to be a great idea. No matter what, NASCAR can't satisfy everyone. The Gordon fans want NASCAR to get Gordon in victory lane, the Junyer fans won't be happy until he wins, the Stewart fans won't be happy unless Stewart wins, and with race fans, everything is always the other driver's fault.

I prefer the system before they implemented the Chase. I also prefer lobster over hot dogs. No one has the right to tell me what I should like and dislike. I will make that decision. And, I will state again that I will count this season as Gordon's 6th Championship, under the previous points system for Championship. :)

But is that why you do not like the Chase, because your guy hasn't won?

My guy was screwed over twice by the Chase format. Kasey was screwed in 2004. Gordon should've had a shot in 2005 (and yes, I do believe he was screwed over because of the Chase format). And last year, Tony was screwed bigtime because of the Chase. BUT, the racing is better, the championship standings are more dramatic and it makes Homestead on heckuva race. :beerbang:

Sure, it needs some tweaks, kinda like the top 35 rule. But, the top 35 rule won't be changed until a big name is left on the outside of the race, and they've made changes to points in back-to-back seasons because big names were on the outside of the "Chase" looking in. And, I'm sure that NASCAR will tweak the Chase a lot more if Gordon or Stewart doesn't win the championship.

Instead of talking about how...

Of course not. My guy is also Tony and Jr and a bunch of others like Bobby and Burton.
I have never liked the Chase format.

... Gordon misse dthe chase in 05, it was all about Junyer. Any way NASCAR pursues changes, it will be based on Junyer's performance, not on the large scope of how the Chase is working.

In 2005, Tony Stewart was clearly THE BEST DRIVER. The best driver won in 2005, but everyvbvody was whining about Junyer.

They got their changes, and still, Junyer's not in (and it's a long shot at this point). If we were still in the old format, Gordon would've all but sealed the deal by now, and there'd be almost no point to watching the championship. And when Harvick, Junyer and Kahne aren't performing well, those fans aren't going to be all that interested. It'll add even more to their detestment to see Keebler Elf and Jeff Gordon (their mortal enemies) winning races. At least the Chase gives a certain element for those fans to want to see.

Any driver that didn't make The Chase in any year didn't deserve to win the championship or have a shot at it. In a non-Chase year, they're so far behind that no one talks about them.

If Gordon does not win the championship this year, there is going to be so much complaining from his fans. Unless a different driver gets hot, it will come down to Gordon, Johnson, and Stewart in the final race. Truex and Boyer (assuming they get in) will be bringing up the rear and the others will be fighting for 4th.

never cared for the chase format myself. really don't like the top 35 rule. if you can't make the field you shouldn't be on the track. use to be called tough chit <g> now where's the 10 cent pop machine?

Sorry, but if a driver that is 700 points or more behind after the first 26 races and then wins the Championship in the next 10 races.....he is not the true Champion to me.

Then I ask you if a wild card team in the NFL or MLB goes all the way to the title game/series and wins, do you consider them the world champs?

In 37 years only 8 wild card teams have won the Super Bowl.

Why do people always compare the Chase to baseball. It is racing, not baseball, basketball, or football. Should they also divide the racing teams up into, say, eight divisions of five teams each and the top teams with the most points in each division have a 3 race playoff, and then continue to the World Series. Of course not, this is racing. Why do people compare it to baseball instead of F1, IRL or Champ Car. Are they not more closely related.

Bottom line. There is no relation to racing and baseball.

Okay muggle, I won't argue with you, but the relationship I was referring to was the also rans in other sports being able to contend for the championship. BTW, I wasn't just comparing racing to baseball, but had more in mind the NFL. But I see that you really don't like the new system. I just happen to like it and I like the COT as well and I don't like the new Bristol. :)

Now you are hitting the nail on the head. Some like the chase and some don't like the Chase. same as the COT and Bristol. I am neutral on the COT at this time, Bristol I don't like the new track. :)

Don't matter what we like and don't like. It's what Brian France likes that matters. He don't give a chit about the fans.
