December 7, anniversary of the "day of infamy", when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Over 3000 lives lost that day alone which was the beginning of a three year, eight month struggle.
Great progress realigning the two nations has resulted while many bitter memories remain and most likely, always will.
Not a day of celebration but a day of rememberance, patriotism and knowing so many signed up voluntarily with full intentions of beating the axis on both fronts.
Times might have been more simple but they were just as stressful. For those who were in the armed forces during that time period really are, "the greatest generation", so named by Tom Brokaw.
