One Size (Template) Fits All
NASCAR President Mike Helton said Thursday that NASCAR already has built a “uni-template,” a series of interlocking templates that will fit over NASCAR’s next-generation car, called the “Car of Tomorrow,” which will debut in late 2006 or early ’07. There will be one uni-template that every brand of car will be required to fit, Helton said. Currently, although many templates are shared among brands, each brand has some unique body templates. One driver less than enthused about the uni-template move is Greg Biffle. “They’re going to make them like IROC cars, so every car is identical,” Biffle said of NASCAR. “That’s gonna be really bad. That’s exactly when the sport will make its turn,” Biffle continued, pointing downward with his hand.(Speed TV)

How the hey will we tell the manufacturers apart?

It is already nascar car...has been for awhile ...remember in the 80s when you could tell all the cars apart? Kind of sad where it is at and where it is heading.

Really since about 1998 or so the cars have been the same. The only difference is headlight decals and grille openings/placement.

Jimmie Johnson's 2006 paint job may just need modification with the one size thingy.

What a shame that there is no brand separation anymore. The only way you can tell now is by the grill and headlight decals.

Yeah, I agree this is pretty stupid. Chevrolet should have the look of the Monte Carlo. Ford should have the look of the Fusion. Dodge should have the look of the Charger. If they aren't going to give the cars their respected model's look, then why even name them? Just call them Chevy, Ford, and Dodge.

Who wants to bet that the Chevrolet is going to call their car the Camaro/Chevelle in 2008 when it is re-released?
