Scott Sharp was the fastest driver during the first day of practice for the Toyota Indy 300 on Friday, but he could face an uphill challenge in MBNA Pole Qualifying this afternoon after crashing in practice this morning at Homestead-Miami Speedway.



1996 series co-champion Sharp hit the wall in Turn 4 of the 1.5-mile oval, and his No. 8 Delphi Dallara/Toyota/Firestone came to rest just short of the start-finish line. More updates will be provided when available.

Sharp unhurt.

1996 series co-champion Sharp was unhurt and cleared to drive after hitting the wall in Turn 4 of the 1.5-mile oval, and his No. 8 Delphi Dallara/Toyota/Firestone came to rest just short of the start-finish line. Sharp climbed from the car without assistance. There was damage to the right rear of the car and slight damage to the right front suspension. The right end plate of the rear wing was missing.
