SPRINTThe opening weeks of the 2008 Sprint Cup schedule are taking shape, with tracks hosting seven of the first nine races next year having confirmed dates.
Texas Motor Speedway announced is race dates for 2008 on Tuesday, with its first weekend April 4-6, a week earlier than this year.
And with Phoenix International Raceway already selling tickets for its April 10-12 NASCAR weekend and a Talladega Superspeedway representative confirming its race dates for April 25-27, that likely means the April 20 weekend is the second off-weekend of the season. The April 20th weekend also appears to be the date for the Mexico City race in what will be the series formerly known as the Busch Series.
The first off-weekend in Sprint Cup is Easter on March 23. The season opens with the Daytona 500 on Feb. 17, followed by confirmed dates at California Speedway on Feb. 24 and Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 2.
Dates for March 9 and 16 are not confirmed but appear to be for Atlanta Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, respectively. Those tracks held races on consecutive weekends in the spring of this year. March 30 is reserved for Martinsville Speedway.
The full 2008 Sprint Cup schedule will be released later this year.
