Plate Problems? Some Winston Cup crew chiefs are critical of NASCAR's new system for pre-race selection of the crucial carburetor restrictor plates. Ever since NASCAR went to the air-choking plates to cut speeds at the tour's two biggest tracks some 15 years ago, drivers and crews have at times questioned just how fair that selection process might be, with rumors frequently rampant about a particular driver getting just the right plate. That issue is once again being raised in the garage, with the lack of randomness of the selection at particular issue.(Winston Salem Journal)(2-17-2003)

Weren't some people here asking why other drivers don't say anything...well...here ya go, hope it fits in yer pipe. :)

I knew I wasn't the only one who questioned the plates!

Hey 4x...those drivers are just crazy conspiracy theorists. They just don't like Jr. ^_^

Doesn't NASCAR hand out the plates and a team member walks the plate head-high so all could see?

But of course, Jr gets just the right place cause his daddy was Earnhardt and everyone knows that NASCAR has always wanted an Earnhardt in victory lane and that just in case if an Earnhart doesn't get the right plate, NASCAR secretly installed a kill switch in the other cars just incase they start leading. That way, Earnhardt can go to the front!!!!

How silly of me not to see this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, all those teams and drivers are just crazy! Man, how can they be so silly!?

I'd like to know which teams and crew chiefs are wondering all this.....

After all, Jack Rousch figured out that Jeff Gordon was soaking his tires in chemicals supplied by DuPont.

You're right Fergy...these guys are in no position to know who's cheating.

And we all know no one in NASCAR has ever cheated!

Man...what a crazy bunch of conspiracy theorists those teams are...woo boy!

Do you think a beam of light comes down and shines on the crew member on the # 8 team when he gets THE plate. I can just here the angelic music as it plays, all the teams throwing rose petals as the crew members walks slowly with plate outstreched. I can see the tears being wiped away as all the teams know the most deserving is going to win. :lilangel:

Sound farfetched---so do alot of other ideas being bounced around here. B)

Yeah, you're right. You've supplied enough circumstantial evidence to sway my opinion. Those drivers are just being crazy and making up lies because they don't like Jr.

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

I think the plate issue is a load of bunk.

Maybe we should check if Jr's tires have some special solution sprayed on them. Hehe.

Yes, Jack accused the 24 team of foul play, BUT they were inspected after the allegation and found cleared of any wrong doing. This scenario isn't the case for Jr. As far as I know, no one has ever demanded a re-inspection of the 8 car. Can they? I don't know. Would they? I doubt it. Should they? Most certainly.

I remember a little while back that a female drivers car was re-inspected after the race because the other driver's petitioned it. It may have been ASA or whatever, but it was a big story. She was found to have something wrong in the motor and stripped of her finish.

This would open up a big can of worms in Nascar, so I doubt that they would ever go that far. Here is what they could do for the plate contraversy. Have each driver, called at random, walk over to a shelf of plates, pick one, then pick another driver's name who will receive that plate. Then they push that car in and put it on in front of everyone. Would take some time, but at least it would be considered fair.

I do not accuse DEI of cheatin, BUT, there is something going on there, legal or not. Remember, anything is legal if you don't get caught.

GordonFan...how dare you make up such crazy, unfounded lies! You're just jealous and you just don't like Jr.

Yeah, I know the rest of the world sees something but it's everyone else that's crazy! Only Jr fans know the truth!

:lol2:  :lol2:  :lol2:  :lol2:

Not a bad idea Gordon Fan! Then the whole race would be fair across the board----but wait, hold it, stop right there. If Jr. won it would make some people sad. See they couldn't say he cheated. What ever would they do with their time then? So in all fairness to them, we'd better not implement your plan, we wouldn't want to ruin their week would we :D

it's the old folk tale, "if you're winning, either you must be cheating or got help from the authorities...."

Some things never change......

Man I love this place!I have to get in on this one, despite myself.

[ The point that Gordon Fan made was an excellent one[and what strange bedfellows 'anti-juniorism' makes of us!]Nascar DID,at least check into the Tire soaking allegations.]

When Mike and Jr. can dominate and outrun Stewart,Gordon,Martin,Jarrett,Burton,Labonte, etc. at other tracks....then I will proudly display a # 8 bumper sticker from now on.The fact is the earth will plunge into the sun before that happens!

And I dont have a shred of proof as to WHY the DEI cars are allowed to do this. But the evidence is there for anybody to see!

THE GUYS CHEAT AT THE PLATE RACES WITH NASCAR'S KNOWLEDGE!

I dont know how----but give me a better explanation?

If a dog bites my leg,I dont have to examine his teeth to know he must have some!

JMHO[Guess that is a good thing to add!lol]

I'm pretty sure that DEI has something figured out at the plate tracks, It will be like this until everybody else figures out what they are doing and starts doing it too.

Fergy,

I don't want to seem like a smart ars, but just because you can't "sniff" the agent, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The NHRA wound up mandating a fuel, because they could't figure out what WJ was doing.

Still, as it is, I think DEI has everyone coverd at the plate tracks.

Man oh Man Paul you just don't stop on this issue. Thought it would end after Tona? There will always be the conspiracy theories out there, in every sport, doesn't mean it is true or untrue. So what drivers where saying this anyway? I didn't see any specifics??

cheating! cheating! cheating! , blah blah blah, will this talk go on all week with no proof other than people saying they are. I would like to see concrete evidence that they are or that nascar lets them. otherwise let it go. as was said earlier in this thread they are doing something just a little better than the rest. and when the others figure it out things will change. the sooner the other teams quit sniveling about it and get to work the sooner they will figure it out.

You folks sound as silly as France and Germany demanding proof that Hussein has weapons of mass destruction.

Rest of the world doesn't need proof, just them. :lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2:

But Bush has proof...............

This conversation has grown tiresome!!!

 Well i like Bush, and he is right! But i don't agree on this whole thing and no matter what you say i'm not changing my mind until you give me proof! I have yet to see one shred of evidence, give me some and i'll switch sides ,but until then it's just a bunch of BS>

I don't see any proof coming and I'm pretty certain that most Junior fans would doubt the proof even if it was presented. I actually used to be more of a Junior fan than I am now. I still kind of like him, but NASCAR is making it harder to do so.

Come on Paul those Chevys from RCR and DEI are legit. Just watch how bad they'll suck until they return to Tally.

Now that the bowties are even with ford and dodge, they may give em a run for the money. We will find out this weekend.

Here's to the Rock!!!
You got that right! Let's just hope the weather holds and we get some real racing in!

Hey guys, how are ya? If you listen to the nascar oldtimers there could be volumes wrote about how teams "got around the rules". Bobby Allisons bumper in 1982 is a good example. thier may be some cheating going on with the DEI / RCR cars, but you are all focusing on the plates, I think your looking in the wrong place.

Well I do not know if Jr. is cheating or not but he and Mikey run awfully well at Daytona and Dega. Wounder why Steve Park can't work any of that DEI magic. I hate to say this but, I can see how NASCAR could benefit by Jr winning at Daytona.

Hmmm, maybe that is why Mikey let jr. get that win last year in the Busch race. I can't remember what track it was, but maybe the word came from NASCAR to let him get the win.

I think you're right about that one. They obviously found something that really works and the rest of the field has yet to find it. But when they do, DEI/RCR won't look so invinsible.

Here's an idea, turn it into a made for tv movie, or possibly a soap opera then you people could get your daily dose of who is scamming who.
How about an episode on CSI, boy I'll bet they could get to the bottom of this.

There you go a new reality tv series.... Dale does Nascar or Nascar does Dale depending on your point of view....seriously though they are winning on their Aero package not the plates. Have been for a long time, engines are good but it is all about the air baby!

It just seems odd that Lil'E can defy the laws of physics. Every other driver must have 1 or more cars in the draft just to run with him. If any driver pulls out of line they immediately go to the back until such time as they can pull back in. Lil'E demonstrated all week that he can not only pull out and not lose positions but can actually leave the other drivers who are lined up single file. Yet we are told time and time again that no one can do this. Something is going on. And, I don't think it is just the aero package as Mikey needs the other cars for the draft and Park is a nonentity. Mikey showed that he cannot pull out and run by himself like Lil'E.

Oh, but that just proves how talented Junior is...how much work DEI puts into their plate program...how wonderful a driver he really is.

You didn't know? :p
