I find it kinda funny that many among us choose to frequent the forums in 'stealth mode'. I mean, you have to go out of your way to hide the fact that you're on the forums. What's the fear?

I used to do that, but not here.

Mainly for the purpose of not responding to direct messages or private messages right away.

People see you online and they think you should address them immediately and when you dont, they act as if you comitted a crime for not getting back to them in time. I try to avoid such drama. But since this forum is not as big I dont see the need to "hide" myself.

I've been on a good number of forums over the years and don't recall this ever being asked nor do I know why it would even matter to others.

So, who's paranoid; the stealth members or the members concerned about other members settings? :idunno:

#17D, dpk was just asking a question. I, too, have often wondered about that, but just never asked.
I don't think anyone really cares. Just call it curiosity.
I understand that it's curiosity but what can be gained by calling out forum members as "paranoid" for choosing that option?

I guess that maybe it's that time of the month and I'm being oversensitive  LOL

IMO, it's a little insight into the psyche of the individual. I'm not curious, but it does make me suspicious about the person.
A random screen name already offers a certain level of anonymity. You don't even have to put in your correct location. That's why I say, why hide?

I hadn't even realized that mine was hidden until I checked. I don't even remember setting it that way nor do I recall choosing to not show my age but obviously I did

,Having two children that were handicapped and medically fragile, I had to post and run. I got called out by a couple of members by not answering fast enough.
Since my children are now in heaven, I read more than I post. I have never changed the setting back and won't.
I really don't think it's a big deal.

 It was a question not an accusation. There is a difference.

I don't use stealth mode but I can understand why other people would want to use it. I sometimes used it in the past on another forum for the same reason that @Reck and @kelloggs5TLfan pointed out. Sometimes it didn't make a difference because I was friends with the admin there :D, and she could see who was hidden.

To quote that certain someone "What difference does it make?" just sayin'

Didn't mean to cause a debate over this subject. Just thought it's kinda silly, that all. It was a simple question.

I put BAMF as my job. What does that say about me?

I am glad that this timely and important issue has been addressed

After seeing Jeff Gordon being forced to race against his will, for the last six years folks here should be well aware of the evil forces and what they can do.
It should be also obvious that some among us don't even like racing, and everything about an event must be bitterly critiqued. Obviously they have been caught in the same evil Web that has abducted Jeff, and they are now are forced to participate or post against their will about Nascar.

I don't use the stealth mode because my concern is just the opposite. Folks can't get me to leave, I refuse. But for anyone on the fence you had best take some Stealth precautions.

( It is recommended that you print the following instructions and keep them on an index size card in your wallet).

I recommend typing with latex gloves to limit leaving any trace evidence. Also post at various random locations, hotels, etc in order to use random locations with WiFi access. Tip: Hospitals are great, just sit in a waiting room like you are visiting someone and use their free Wi-Fi. This is also a great way to do big downloads without having it charged against your data plan.

Note: Saran wrap over screens and keyboards is also great at helping in preventing other types of DNA exposures as well, even preventing the need to clean up the embarrassing stuff etc...

Also post at different times. If you posted at 8:30 am today avoid entering another post at 8:30 am or 8:30 pm for 3 months, choose 8:31or 8:29 instead. Don't simply trash your PCs, iPhone, etc posting devices. Dip them in acid and dissolve them.

There are evil forces out there that hate you and want to NSA you at the least, take precautions. Avoid Tracibility at all costs.

The reason people hide things is because they have something to hide. IMO, it is a form of deceit.

That's so ridiculous it borders on funny.

C'mon Bobby, you know better than to say such things.

This is just a feature most boards have for one. So if it is there, why not use it?

Same reason why there is an "ignore" button. You use it for when you dont want to see a certain undersirable post. Me, I think that feature is of no use because when you sign onto a forum it comes with the territory that there will be some idiots abound that you have to put up with.

You cant apply that reason that if a person chooses to use the hide me feature that they have something terrible to hide. It could just be that like some have said here already, feature was defaulted that way and they didn't even know it was there or they simply want to use it for their convenience just like you like using the ignore feature. Its not like they're plotting world domination by coming in here and using the hide feature.

Same thing can be said about why is there a "like" notification feature, quote and mention feature? None of them are excential and you can choose to disable them. I have.

After a while I got tired of being bombarded by the "xx member liked your post" notification so I disabled it.

Thanks for the info, and I liked the post.

BTW I will probably Pm you in the future when I like a post of yours, to make sure you know I liked the post, how else would you know?

Question is there a way to get a received receipt for sent PMs like you can with regular email?

That would just make me mad. :p

And yes, you can actually recieve emails whenever someone PMs you if you so choose.

I took a print screen

I never said you had to agree with me. Hence the, "IMO" part.

Yeah, I tend to hand out a ton of likes on here, but whatever. I have a fragile ego that needs to be stroked constantly so I can maintain a high level of self-esteem, and I like logging on here and seeing that I have eight million alerts because everybody liked or responded to my stuff.

Seriously though, as Reck said, we have all these different features on here for a reason - to use them. Use the ones you like, ignore the ones you don't, and let everyone else do the same.

Just because I disabled that doesn't mean I dont like "likes." Dont be shy. lol

But always maintain at least a minimum level of suspicion. :)

You are batting. 815 excellent average.
1747/likes to 2142/post.

I wonder if we should do a Reck /likes received thread since he has the feature turned off.
We are all here for you Reck, and wanting to help.

Yep. DTA - Don't Trust Nobody. Ol' Stone Cold Steve Austin taught me that. ;)

Yeah, I'm following in your footsteps. If I can maintain that pace, I should eventually get to where you're at.

And I think we should all do what you suggested and shower Reck with PMs and emails letting him know how much we really like his posts. Who wouldn't appreciate that?

Possible thread titles?

-Do you have mutual like buddies (aka "circle like-ing").
-Do you ever give out sympathy likes? (as in thinking the content is lousy, but you feel sorry for them).
-Are you a strategic liker? you don't like them, or the content but you want them to like something as crazy that you wrote. Perhaps they already liked something you wrote, so you feel obligated

If getting likes is a contest than I already loss. :XXROFL:

I leave this board so often for such long periods of time that even someone that registers now would have more likes than me from the time I'm gone.

@Greg to hit on all your points, I...

1.My scros here are @FLRacingFan, @Stewart Fan, @Mr. Gregory and you. Chex is also very hit and miss. I get all mah likes from you guys.

2.I tend to give out likes just because they took the time to post. To show I read and appreciate the post even if I dont particularly agree with it.

3.More of the latter. Sometimes I have nothing to say but they liked my stuff so I reciprocate.

Understood, I have faked a few myself.

Ooh, I wanna play.

1) I think we all have our mutual like buddies, but honestly, I like pretty much everybody here - way too many of you to list you all by name. I could do it to get cheap likes from everyone, but nah, I'm above that. LOL. I also don't want this to turn into a popularity contest. I hate those things with a passion.

2) No, I don't do sympathy likes. That's fake and corny.

3) No, I don't do strategic likes. That's also fake and corny. A like for me is essentially an endorsement. I tend to give out a like for any post that I agree with or find interesting, humorous, or otherwise entertaining. I've been trying to cut down on giving so many of them out but it's difficult. Y'all are some entertaining mofos. :)
