our ram got broke into at ashley furniture while we were inside at cooper street and interstate 20. Took 1500 dollars worth of power tools and equipment but ignored the GPS holder on the dash or the GPS unit, CDs, and other items inside the glove box.

Tools were inside a black suitcase from my dad's business trip.

BASTARDS!

worse yet, the suitcase has our address on it.

FYI, they completely removed the passenger front door handle to do so.

suitcase has our address, police are picking up the survielance footage tomorrow.

so @$$w|p3s, break into our trucks now.

My bedroom window is open right above the driveway, i'm armed with a sledge hammer, pocketknife, and phone, the house alarm is turned on to instant-alarm, our trucks are empty, and oh by the way, we have a pit bull.

We even took the garage door openers out of the trucks. and there's no keypad on the wall for them, either.

now, try to get into the (electronically secured) garage or either of our trucks.

Dad: "It's f**king amazing that the newest of our 3 vehicles doesn't have a damn alarm on it."

we're fixing that the same day as the door handle, and getting a spare switch for the lid as well.

meanwhile, i have to be up at 6:30 and it's currently 3 AM. in my sweats, window cracked open (used an old reed actuator magnet to keep the alarm armed the easy way), pocket knife in one pocket, phone in front of me, sledge hammer on the floor next to me.

Having worked in the body shop and insurance industry I'm very familar with claims like this. It sucks. I hate thieves too.

#1 if a pro wants your car an alarm isn't going to stop him.
#2 if a non-pro sees something in your car and wants it an alarm isn't going to stop them either. Plus a non-pro will do varying degrees of damage as in your case.

When was the last time you saw or you yourself took notice of a alarm going off in a parking lot? 99.9% of people ignore them now as it seems they're always going off at the mall.

I keep nothing of value in my vehicles.

Oh man, that sucks. To go thru all that, the thieves must have really wanted in there. It makes you wonder if they didnt already know what you had in there.

I hope they catch them and you get your stuff back. I dont like a thief either.

Sorry to hear this.

good news. New door handle is $120.

Geico is sending a check for $750.

That sucks.

A roommate of mine had his car broken into once while it was in the parking lot for the apartment building he lived in. It was part of a series of break-ins that happened that night all over town.

His car was locked, but the window was slightly open. Instead of sticking their hand in the window to just unlock the door, they busted the sunroof and climbed in that way.

At the time he was a DJ for a bar. They ignored the CD case with about $5000 worth of CDs in it that was on the back seat, and instead stole the $5 CD case with 2 CDs off the front seat. They also ignored the $1000 CD player and the removable cover (which he had stupidly left in the car) and instead stole his reading glasses in their case off the dash.

Just goes to show how stupid thieves are.

The right kind of security device will protect your truck.

Well, dogs can be poisoned or distracted. I like my option.:growl:

Too small. You shoot an intruder with that, and they might live to sue you for defending your home.

These are better options:

I just sent this to NBC DFW:
To Whom It May Concern-

My name is Steve (censored) Jr. My father's 2005 Dodge Ram was broke into at the Ashley Furniture at Cooper Street and Interstate 20 in Arlington on Friday, July 3.

The theif broke the passenger front door handle off of the truck, allowing entry into the vehicle. $1200 in electrician's equipment and hand tools were stolen, in addition to a suitcase containg business cards (and subsequently, our address).

I have spoken to another truck owner, whose vehicle has been broken into 3 subsequent times, all at the Best Buy at Cooper and I-20- In December 2008, and April and July of 2009.

I am working to retrieve police report numbers and names if you would like them, in order to run a story. I am unsure if Best Buy has camera's in it's lots, but the APD officer that worked our police report said that he would pick up the surveilance footage from Ashley Furniture (it was posted as a survielanced parking lot).

I may be reached at 940-634-(censored) or emailed at (censored) for more information.

SST how much hand wringing and crocodile tears would you have shed if I had typed that? And this is a more open forum than the Podium where people are warned.

Why would I wring my hands and shed tears if it was your post? I personaly know the grief and heartache senseless acts of theft and vandalism cause. I detest the people who do this stuff. I owned a body shop and fixed vehicles like this truck all the time. I then worked for insurance companies for 17 years writing the damage and settling this type of claim. I then owned my own agency and sold the krap we all have to buy. If you sense a chip on my shoulder about ins co. you'd be right. If you think the U.S.Govt wastes money you "You ain't seen nothing yet". If you only had a clue where your premium dollars go..

You think I'm going to giggle over anothers misfortune? Even yours? Why did you even bother to respond other than to stir the pot?

Hey Magnethead, how much of a deductible is your Dad out of pocket? How much is it going to cost to replace the stuff stolen that the ins. co depreciated. That's more out of pocket expense, Bp. Does he have rental coverage, which he pays for, or is he going to hoof it while the truck is in for repairs.

Oh, BP, can you see me? I'm holding my sides laughing, tears running down my face over this, oh man it's so funny,,,,,,:sarcasm:

$500 deductable on a $750 check.

The hand tools cost $600 out of pocket between sears, lowes, home depot, and fastenal. The two fluke meters were $300 new, each.

We had the doorhandle fixed yesterday morning- local body shop did it in 2 hrs 30 minutes, for $120.

FYI my dad looked up the new flukes- The Multi-meter that was stolen is $520 new, the amp-probe is $370 new.
