Who thinks the pack racing at restrictor races is better vs the non restricted old superspeedway races?

My opinion is well-noted on this subject. Plate "racing" is the root of all evil. Well not all evil, but most of it anyway

i watch the 1984 talledega 500 i believe it was last week, and that was an amazing race, they actually had to race, could get runs on eachother by them selves

Actually, I guess I have to go with pack.......I remember the three to five car breakaways back in the 80's. Mid race ten cars on the lead lap........great if your driver was lucky enough to be among the lead pack. Qualifying was very critical. Boring though.:D

LOL....Yeh i hear you on that one!!! My feelings exactly!

It ain't never going be like the old days......bitch and complain all you want.:D

If we didn't bitch and complain what fun would it be?????

Most people think that the plate races are really that close. Most people think all those cars are all together because the competition in NASCAR is really that close.

NASCAR's attempt at parity. The competition isn't what's close, the drafting keeps them all together.

Exactly, your average Joe in the stands doesn't realize that.

But most importantly, the newbie fan that's tuning in on a Sunday afternoon definately doesn't know that the cars are restricted, and doesn't know that what they're seeing is a carefully crafted experience by NASCAR. Especially when the idiot announcers are paid to sit there and keep screaming about how "close" the racing is.

"Well gee Pa, all those cars are so close together...the competition in this here NASCAR must be amazing!"

When there's really no racing going on at all.

I know it will never happen, but I just kind of wish we could start the season with an actual race (like Bristol) instead of a well orchestrated parade.

That's because you enjoy real racing.

But rest assured, you will continue to see the Daytona 500 won by someone closely related to Dale Earnhardt for the rest of your natural life.

It sells.

:xxrotf: That had me laughing so hard I had to wipe away tears from my eyes to see the keyboard.

So DEI will always have at least one (possibly four) wins per season!!:) Insurance.:ROFLMFAO:

You know I'm only playing.

I seriously think that Tony Stewart is going to win the 500 this year...not because I like him I just think that he's going to.

Paul, you don't have much faith in the average fan do you? I kind of take exception to your post saying that the average Joe in the fans doesn't know what keeps these cars close. When I went a couple of years ago, all I heard from everyone around me was the same type of conversation we're having here. We may not all be MIT grads, but we sure as hell have a little knowledge about what's going on. I'll tell you what a friend of mine once told me. If you don't like what you're seeing, quite watchin it. But then again, you probably don't watch it anyway...right.

I would like to think that most of the people that post here aren't average fans.

But...if you want to take that comment personally....feel free.

I voted right off the bat. Makes me think that most people don't want to vote cause it might go against what they want.

You needed a third option........"either"!!:)

I watched back unrestricted.........I watch now. Enjoyed then, enjoy now.:)

They just need to get rid of those two tracks.

That would solve the problem........but I don't see it happening anytime soon.:)

If NASCAR only raced one track a year it would be Daytona

I voted!!
I like the pack racing. Thats all I have ever seen but I still like it.
I have seen tapes of the pre-88 Daytona 500 and yes they were ok but Not as exciting as todays races. You do have to admit during most or the seasons races you just sit back and watch the race, When they are at Daytona and Dega you sit on the edge or your seat and watch the race, even saying words like "WOH" "WOW" "CAREFUL" etc etc.

Don't see it happening either. But it would be a good idea if the people at NASCAR thought about safety and good racing instead of money once in a while.

Well, let me see...

Let's have us a car race! Everybody go build you one, we'll race 'em, and see who has the fastest! Sounds like fun, huh?

Oops, wait a minute...that red one...up yonder...can't nobody seem to keep up with him! Boy talks funny, but he sure can drive that red car. Hail, I can't go on like this...somebody needs to slow HIM down (since I can't speed up, plus I'm a-skeered to drive this fast, Mr. Johnson).

Hey, I know! Let's slow ALL the cars down! That way, we'll all be closer together, I might have a chance of winning a race, and people won't have to see the fastest car win all the time! Man, I'm smart. I'm gonna make a whiz-bang TV commentatinator one of these days. Ain't I, Junior?

So, instead of seeing who has the fastest car (we ALL saw that), let's see who can miss all the wrecks that happen when faster cars can't get away from parachutes. Sounds fun, huh?

NOT!!!!

Well its fun for the 90% of NASCAR "fans" (Paul's stat) who want to see a bunch of torn up cars flipping around.

I think the cars should be restricted, but not with restrictor plates. Give them softer tires, smaller spoilers, and let them go racing!

Bingo what a brilliant Idea! I wonder if Nascar has thought about it.....not...lol:mad:

Not fun!:) Who's going to turn their TV's off February 7th thru February 16? Who's dreading the first race of the 2003 Winston Cup (Busch, too) season?:) And who will not cheer if their favorite wins the Daytona 500?

Not fair what is not fair? That we have to sit on the edge of our couches all during the 500, not even get up for a beer becasue we don't want to miss....THE BIG ONE.....,come on i can only take so much....lol:rolleyes:

Until Nascar comes up with a "REASONABLE" safe alternative, like softer tires, and lessening dependence on that dreaded "AEROPUSH" DEI will continue to rule. They have that dang plate thing almost wrapped up. Just look at Mikey's test speeds.
The Daytona 500 USED to be a real race, like Dega. Give me a non restrictor plate race anytime.
BUT, Daytona and Dega still make me HAPPY!

Yeh i like the big tracks , but damn if i could only be run the right way i'd really love it.
