Paint Schemes

OK, simple question here:

Why are the paint schemes for most of the cars in NASCAR so....ordinary....

Jeff is the only guy who gets FLAMES....everyone else is stuck with corporate sponsors day week after week....

Check out Matt's car from last year with flames...totally cool and intimidating!

Why can't we get more 'Hot Rod' effects, and a little more creative?

Don't you think Dave Blaney's car could benefit from a some hungry looking teeth on the front?! B)

I think Harvick and Biffle's Paint Schemes are the most creative beside Jeff Gordons. The Black and Silver, you have a thunder or vampire effect on Harvick's car. The DEI cars with Dale Jr. and Waltrip and Green just look, non-unique, sad to say; nearly looking like F1 team cars in terms of design and I dont even know where to go with the Evernham cars. I agreem They need to have some uniqueness in those paintschemes

Hey, Splunge! Are ya jumping ship on me!?!?!?!????

I agree, some of these cars need some serious decorating help! lol

No way!

I thought I could upload the pic of Matt's car in the post...doh' !

so I changed my avatar so people could see it....but luckily I found another example on the web and stuck it in my sig (only temporary!)....

Don't fret!

Why don't cars have more hot rod effects in the paint schemes???

Consider if you were paying in the vicinity of 15 million dollars a year to sponsor a NASCAR Winston Cup car, what would be most important?? Getting the paint scheme to show who the sponsor is or offering a "hot rod effect" ??

It is mandated by NASCAR the numbers be ledgible and visible from a distance, which is why many times the roof number is a different color than the door numbers. Several years ago prior to the running of "The Winston", several cars were asked to change the color of thier numbers as NASCAR and the team owners saw them differently under the lights, creating a problem with scoring. Sponsors would no doubt like wild and crazy paint jobs, but the simple fact is, those paint schemes overpower
(a) the sponsor and (B) the numerals. :D

Getting too crazy might underscore one or the other or both. As for the front, there is a number in the headlight area and it too must be visible and definitive.

There was a problem with that in the Pepsi 400 when Scoring officials couldnt see Elliott Sadler's 38 on his special paint scheme.

Off topic I remember, there was kinda problem in the 2002 Aarons 499 where Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon's cars looked the same (because Gordon was having the blue Pepsi scheme). They had to put green neon tape on one of the cars to identify the two.

Whew! Ya skeered me there for a second!

Whizzer, I agree with what you are saying regarding the numbering on the cars, but I don't see why Evernham couldn't spiff up those boring red dodges even if it's just a little bit. Most dodges that I see aren't that boring to look at! And Elliott's and Mayfield's cars look almost identical with the exception of the "neon green" tape that they put on Mayfield's to distinguish the different cars. Kenseth's car that Splunge has in his sig. is not at all like the boring one that usually runs around the track with the DeWalt logo on the hood! Just my $.02 worth. (And it's not really worth that! lol )

I totally understand the visibility issue, and most importantly the sponsor issue, which is why I'm using the Dewalt car for my example. I think it is one of the best examples of a great scheme.

When I saw it last year, I was like WOW....COOL...DEWALT!....

The addition of flames made me root for them simply because they looked great on the track.

There definetly is a fine line between good looking and gawdy...I just think the cars could use a little more attitude to go with the drivers! :D

Harvick has the best paint scheme in the Cup series, hands down.

I think Johnny's car is diffrent but yet you are still able to see the Valovolien logo's.

The 9 and 19 does need a makeover. A few others as well!

Here are the top 5 paint schemes---IN NO ORDER

1.Ricky Craven
2.Kenny Wallace
3.Jeff Gordon
4.Kevin Harvick
5.Kurt Busch

I was just making stuff up about the Jasper car! See, it does look more intimidating!!

Also, I have always liked the looks of the Cingular car...even if I don't prefer Robby....

I really liked the pant scheme that Harvick ran I belive at the Winston. Might not have been. But anyway it was sorta ruby red. and silver. that was cool.

Ya talkin' about this one bud?

Just my two cents on this, but I think Jamie McMurray has one of the best paint schemes. I think it's pretty cool if you ask me. :p

See these are all great looking cars (the 99 is a little cheesy  ).

I just remember the first race I went to as a kid (little dirt track in Rural Retreat Va). I picked this blue car with yellow lightening down the sides, simply because it looked fast. I think this is still the one of the strongest factors in people picking a favorite car, at least to start!

Something about never getting a second chance for a first impression comes to mind.......... B)

I've always liked Dale Jr's 2001 MLB All Star Game Car

In my opinion, as a car painter... er for NASCAR Racing Computer Games, I think that combining white and red can bring out some of the best combinations.
