Papis joins Rusty Wallace Racing for road-course events
CSD Staff

Rusty Wallace Racing officials announced Tuesday that former Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series champion Max Papis will drive the team's No. 64 in the three 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series road-course events.

"When we looked at the 2008 schedule, we wanted to head to the road-course events knowing that we had an edge over the competition," team owner Rusty Wallace said. "That's why we chose Max Papis ... His diverse record of longevity and success proved to us that he has what it takes to put our team in victory lane in 2008."

The relationship between Wallace and Papis originated in the mid-1990s, when both drove cars sponsored by the Miller Brewing Co.

In his 20-plus year racing career, Papis has driven in multiple series, ranging from NASCAR to Formula One. Papis has scored victories in CART, Italian Formula 3, International Formula 3000, International Motor Sports Association World Sports Car, the American LeMans Series, Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series and Sports Car Club of America World Challenge GT races.

"Given [the] team's past performance on the road courses and the support from Chevrolet, I believe that we'll have a very good chance at running up front and contending for the win in all three races," Papis said.

David Stremme and Chase Austin are the primary drivers for the No. 64.

Papis is one heck of a good driver. It wouldn't surprise me to see him contend at the road tracks.
