Park to drive the #8 car next year?

I think it's a good idea. Obviously, everyone's got questions about him. What better place to get a little extra practice during the season? It can only be good for him.

And if the cars they give him are anything like Junior's was tonight, then he might have half a shot. :)

Like boo said, the #8 in BGN. And I think that Jr owns that car with Theresa.

thought it was 2 races with park.

and paul i know it has done been anwserd but for once i know something you dont know. Bush. (just messing with you buddy)

I heard it was 7 races. And as much as I hate to say it, I seriously doubt that Steve Park in the fastest car on on the track could win a race even at the Busch level.

Bummer is that Steve is one of the most likeable guys on camera I've ever seen at the races. But so's Johnny Benson and Ken Schrader and John Andretti and a whole bunch of other guys. That's not what wins races, and starting in the back half of the field all time mires a car at the bottom of the heap.

Richmond is not the place ya want to start at the back. Anybody starting 35 back will be lucky to even finish the race on the lead lap, and if the car ain't hot out of the gate yer lapped within 50. It's only a 22 second track and yer 10 down after the first restart.

Got to give the kid credit for not giving up but dern it sure looks to me like the dream is just about over.

Huh? Steve is a winner. I think driving a BGN car would be good for him. It's an additional risk but I think it will do him good.

Steve is a guy who took a massive shot to the head and would do well to climb out of the drivers seat while he still can.

Driving in the Busch series can only be good for Park??? That's where he got hurt in the first place!! Bear in mind all of the Cup drivers in recent years who have hurt themselves driving 'for fun' in the Busch/Truck series - Hamilton, Nemechek, Bobby Labonte, Benson. You could maybe add Cope in there. There's probably more, but I'm no historian.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cup owners have a contract provision prohibiting a driver in their employ from racing in that series.

A top driver pretty much writes his own ticket. If he wants to go run other races it's kinda hard to tell him no.

Putting Park in a Busch ride again, there's a good idea.

In one respect, people always say that there is just as much of a chance for a driver to get injured in a Cup race as in a Busch race, so why not do both and get more practice? Well, first and foremost, Cup drivers have a commitment to their Cup teams to be their priority. By increasing the number of races you are racing, you are increasing your chances of getting injured.

Second of all, the Busch, and truck, series are both great series in their own right, but due to the lack of experience compared to the Cup series, there's almost always more wrecks. Just b/c you are a Cupper, doesn't mean the busch regulars or rookies are going to give it to you any easier, and they can make mistakes. Who was the Busch driver that accidently got into Johnny Benson sending him into the wall at Darlington and putting Benson out of a couple of races? And howabout the driver who got into Bobby Hamilton in the truck race this weekend and now Hamilton is out three cup races? $hit happens, but it is more likely to happen when you put yourself in a series of less experienced drivers.

There's also a third part to this story. Drivers often forget that when they are going from their Cup ride to their Busch or truck ride, those teams rarely have any where near the budget their Cup teams do. There are usually not the same level of professionals working on the car checking if everything is safe and the same quality parts may not be used. Parts can and will break, like Steve Parks steering wheel (or column) in the Busch race when he got injured.

There are many factors into why Cup drivers should not be racing in the smaller series if they are really committed to their Cup teams. That doesn't mean by racing in a smaller series anything will happen, but it is more likely to. Is it really worth the risk?

Maybe Park will have some great success in the #8 busch car next year and that will boost his morale and help him in the Cup series. But I hope he stays safe out there, b/c the last thing he can take is another wreck.

Its only 5 races. Jr. is going to run 5 too, and a rookie will run 7. Sam Hornnish Jr. will most likey run the other 7. It will be a bigger chance for the crew members to show what they can do.

It only takes one race to get injured. But I hope Park makes the most of this Busch deal and gets some good runs in since he is doing it.

Imagine if it was Stewart who got hurt in that truck race instead of Hamilton. A guy in the title chase missing three Cup races due to injury? If I was the sponsor I'd put the kibosh on that pronto.

Ixnay on Hornish in that car too, incidentally. He says he's gonna re-sign for IRL.
