In the history of Darlington, there have been 39 winners, according to the list. Of those drivers, 22 have multiple wins at the track. While three of the five active 1-win drivers are in the twilight of their careers, it seems more than likely that Ricky Craven and Bobby Labonte will win again at Darlington before retiring.

Perhaps the most surprising Darlington winner is Lake Speed. I knew he only had one win in his Winston Cup career, but what a place to get it at.

What I find interesting, 5 of Jeff Gordon's wins are the Southern 500 on Labor Day weekend.
Of those five, there were four in a row.

The five being the most of any active driver for the Southern 500
But of course we all know it was the car and crew chief and money and Hendrick and something else I can never remember..................Jeff is after all only an average driver at best.

HS,

As another of the old pharts on the phorum here, I have yet been able to understand why it is that so many of the younger fans simply refuse to admit that Jeffy Poo (that's what the wife has called him ever since he moved into the taxicabs. I think she has some sort of secret thing for him, although she denies that adamently.) the credit he deserves.
The kid really is that good. Of course he has had good equipment and teammates, of course that team has at times explored and stretched the gray areas of the rulebook, but is there any other driver currently competing with the record of wins and championships that Jeff and his HMS crew have to show for their efforts?
Jeff is still young enough to continue to put the numbers up on the board for a few years yet.
I'm sure he will do just that. I know I'm not ready to write him off yet, even though I'm not really a fan of his.
Just appreciate his talent behind the wheel of a race car. Any kind of race car.

Bob...HS had his tongue firmly planted in his cheek if you weren't sure. It is quite funny that there are still those out there who think that Jeff Gordon is still an average (or worse) driver who just happened to win 4 championships and over 60 Winston Cup races.

Every driver who has had success has had a good team and a certain amount of money to be successful. Of course there are a lot of drivers out there (who shall remain nameless here) that have had as good if not better teams, equipment, etc. than Jeff has had and haven't done a damn thing with it. ;)
