Paul Tracy Will Test Childress Car
After nearly two decades as an open wheel racer, Canadian Paul Tracy figures its time to sit in a race car with fenders. The 2003 Champ Car World Series champion has struck a deal with NASCAR team owner Richard Childress to test a stock car over the next two weeks with the eventual goal of competing in the Nextel Cup race at Michigan International Speedway on Aug. 21. Tracy will get behind the wheel of a stock car for the first time in his career on Tuesday at Concord (N.C.) Speedway in an ARCA car prepared by former stock car driver and now driving instructor Andy Hillenburg. Tracy then will head to MIS the day after the Brickyard to test the No. 33 Chevrolet for Childress. If everything falls into place, Tracy will make an attempt to qualify for the race at MIS, which he'll have to do based on speed.(sports.yahoo.com)

That will be cool. I'd like to see the open wheel guys make, what I think is, the step up to NASCAR Cup. I think it will bring some fresh talent to the sport. I don't expect them to do consistently well right off the bat, but they are already proven drivers in their sport and I think they will bring something with them.
I think NASCAR has the most talented drivers in motorsports.

Tracy needs to do something to get out of Champs cars. He has no sponsor. No contract for 2006. Pretty sad situation for a champion.

I hope he does OK. Problem may be his pedal-to-the-metal approach. Won't make many friends.

I would like to see him race a year in the Busch Series before trying it at the Cup level. He is a talented driver but Nascar is a whole different animal and features some of the best drivers anywhere.

Can't wait to see this happen; it will be a good cross to see open wheel drivers run the cup cars again. Remember the days of Mario Andrettti and AJ Foyt running Daytona...a racer is a racer.

I agree, but it will take him a while to get used to the heavier cars.

Maybe, but his Dad knew his Craftsman tools would last at least 4 lifetimes.

I remember i was watching Jay Leno a few years back and he was at Indy, and he was talking with AJ, and jay asked AJ "why do they call it the brickyard?" well the AJ and his crew tossed bricks at Jay, then Jay said "man that Aj folt is a a**hole" and then he got hit again.....i thought it was funny.
