Peyton Manning is arguably the best player in the NFL right now. But, his newest contract is staggering. He agreed in principal to a 7 year deal for $99.2 million including a $34.5 million signing bonus.

In the warped world of the NFL this actually helps the Colts in their salary cap situation. By designating Manning as their "franchise player" he would have accounted for $18+ million of this years cap room. Signing this deal before the tuesday afternoon deadline will make his cap figure more like $9 million this year.

Not bad for a guy who never did anything of significance in college, and just this year managed to finally win a playoff game.

Overrrrr-raaaated!

There's at least a dozen NFL quarterbacks I'd rather have than Manning.

Now, Montana, there was a great quarterback in that man, pulled out comebacks in the 4th quarter like it was nobody's business. Also, another great quarterback was african-american Warren Moon, he threw for 33,000 yards in the NFL and 40,000 in the CFL, possibly the greatest quarterback if you look beyond the NFL.

But I see something in Manning that I dont see in many of these new Qbs like Vick, McNabb, Garcia etc. Manning prefers to stay in the pocket, he's keeping to that tradition, he doesnt prefer to scramble often, he releases from the pocket unlike many of these new Qbs who get out of the pocket and run for yards, a role thats already reserved for their running back.

Montana was one of the top 3 quarterbacks I've ever seen. I would have to give the nod to Dan Marino as the best ever. Montana won championships, and I certainly don't discount that fact. But, I think that if you put Marino on the teams that Montana won with Dan would likely have won more games and possibly even more championships. I'm certain that Montana would have never put up Marino type numbers in any situation imaginable.

I like Payton Manning, but thats alot of money and maybe he's worth it, maybe not we'll see. But I don't think he is the calibor QB as Brett Farve. Just my .02 cents

I'll be convinced Manning is a quarterback capable of performing in the upper echelons of the NFL if he leads his team to the Super Bowl but there are many people saying that Eli could be the better out of the two. Of course, Eli will be in the draft in April.

Anyway, I hear the comparison between Brady and Montana, they both have that same cool when it comes to playing, that and they've made some great 4th quarter heroics in their careers. Can Brady match the potential and greatness that the legends have? I think he can, only time will tell, Brady can perform very well in the clutch, he doesnt have those well-known receivers yet he can still work with them. Brady has a strong arm, I've been following his career ever since he was in Michigan, if he can keep up this pace, he'll be one of the greats no doubt.

Peyton is a good QB in the fact that he can read the defenses and make audibles. I just love watching him behind the center. Eli is the same way, but in my opinion he is better than Peyton. But I am a little prejudiced being that I am life long Ole Miss Rebel. I started keeping up with the Rebels when Archie played. Both of his boys are way better than their father. Archie would have been a great NFL QB if he would have played anywhere but the Saints. But knowing the family all of them are good folks and I wish Eli good luck in the NFL. The Rebels will surely miss him next season.

Peyton is definetly the francise player now is Indy and ihe is worth it too. He is a good player. I knew someone was gonna Brett Farve up too and as much as I dont like him he is very veery good. I dont know if its that he is good or that is just so competitive and works so hard that it makes him good. I dont think he has the tlaent of a Vick or Mcnabb but he has like 10 times the heart passion and desire. Man i dont like him. Being a vkings fan and all.

Good call Tommy, I don't think anybody loves the game as much as Brett. Talentwise he's not a Vick or McNabb maybe, but they don't have near the heart. Brett Farve is one of the true throwbacks of the game.

Some breaking news today from the San Francisco camp, QB Jeff Garcia was released and WR Terrell Owens was traded to the Ravens for basically a coca-cola bottle (because with the way he lost games for the 49ers via dropping passes he claimed he could catch, basically the whole season, thats probably what he's worth)

I actually thought Garcia was a great QB until Owens (basically like Jason Kidd to his basketball team) started bickering (to put it in a nice way) to the front office, trying to lobby for Garcia's replacement. Good riddance to Owens at this point, who's been a thorn in the backside the past two something years. I was hoping Garcia wouldve stayed another year or two, because they 49ers before the season looked to be a Super Bowl contender and they had some shortcomings that could be attributed to Terrell Owens. I wonder who the 49ers will draft or sign now, in their current roster they have Tim Rattay, who's been in the team for 4-5 years, he had some excellent games in 2003, unless the 49ers do something else he maybe the main man, or maybe Ken Dorsey, who had a good career in Miami who the 49ers picked up last year during the draft. They could have a competition for the starting job unless pre-season roster changes prove otherwise.
