Pennzoil To sponsor 99 Burton!

Now thats GOOD news for that team. When a name driver like Jeff Burton cant get a big time sponsor, this sports in trouble. Hope it turns into a full time deal.

yep... good news for the #99....

Accordign to the article Pennzoil will sponsor the #99 at Vegas (not Rockingham this weekend) and will sponsor the #16 later in the year at the first Pocono race...

It still suprises me that Rousch can't find a full time sponsor for Burton.

Totally amazing. I wonder if it is a hint of things to come?

I have a feeling Roush may be asking for more $$$ to run his teams than any of the other teams in the series. It must be a nice chunk of change if it takes 3 sponsors to sponsor the 16 car.

I find it very interesting that drivers like Derrike Cope and the like who haven't won a race in umpteen years (if ever!) can get sponsorship but a guy like Jeff Burton can't.

Not too sure Jack Roush really lives up to his reputation is this sport. He's big name in NASCAR. But that mostly comes from longivity and quite a few wins by drivers of cars he's owned (but many of those wins were rather sparodic in nature)..........he finally got a Championship to bolster his reputation (and don't get me wrong........he and the DeWalt team did a fantastic job of winning that trophy last year). But sponsorship deals have contractual expiration dates written into them and it appears Jeff's sponsor decided they weren't getting their money's worth.........that decision was most likely made way before Jack got the DeWalt team the Championship. Now the job for Roush is to convince a new sponsor that it wasn't a fluke that Roush Racing has a title under it's belt. That might be harder to sell that it would appear on the surface......look at all the bad Roush years leading up to last year. I think Jeff Burton is a much better driver than he's given credit for..........but his track record in Winston Cup just doesn't back that up. No doubt he eats 'em alive in Busch (so did Mark Martin)........but that's a different series and not near as expensive to sponsor. Guess I let the cat out of the bag about my feelings for Jack Roush.

So now I see a big discussion on the horizon about NASCAR needing to control costs.......but I won't comment on that in this thread.

Did I miss something. Cope has a sponsor? I didn't see it on the car at Daytona.

Going off-subject here but I thought PHM Management was sponsoring Cope? I didnt see it on the car either, I guess that was for Cope's independent run team, the 37. I think Cope recently got back with Arnold Motorsports in the 50, I'm not sure though.

Cope got a full season deal from Thrifty rent a car.

Just looked it up and it looks like more of an associate sponsorship with some time on the hood than a full season primary sponsorship...

And I'm sure that the #50 is price at about 1/10 of the price of the #99

I don't really blame sponsors for not wanting to sign with organizations that have 4/5 different teams. Unless you're with the top 2/3...your chances of getting results are pretty slim.

Does each individual team in the multi-team camps have equal bugets? Anyone?

Impossible to know for sure as the teams keep financial information confidential. You'll hear lots of opinion on that, but very few facts.
