TALLADEGA, Ala. - Penske Racing's long-rumored move to the Dodge camp appears complete.
Dodge officials have scheduled a news conference for 9 a.m. Oct. 13 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., when they are expected to announce Penske's addition to the Dodge organization beginning with the 2003 season, ThatsRacin.com has learned.

The move has been speculated for much of the second half of the season, but Penske team members, including driver Rusty Wallace, have dismissed the talk in the past.

As recently as the August race at Indianapolis, when asked if he would be driving a Ford in 2003, Wallace replied: "Of course. That's the plan."

Penske and Dodge officials declined to comment on Friday.

"We are aware that Penske is considering an offer from Dodge," Ford spokesman Kevin Kennedy said, "but as of today they are still a part of the Ford team."

The move would put Wallace, the 1989 Winston champion, and rookie Ryan Newman in Dodge Intrepids next season. Wallace is sixth in points this season and Newman is seventh. Newman has one win while Wallace has yet to score a victory this season.

Penske Racing has been one of Ford's flagship teams since 1994, when they moved to the Ford camp from Pontiac. Wallace won his championship in Pontiacs.

The partnership between Penske Racing and Jasper Motorsports, which includes Jasper's No. 77 Ford team utilizing Penske-built engines, will continue at least for the 2003 season, sources said.

Oh, and for the record, this makes me sick, I am a Rusty fan first and foremost, and a Ford fan as a close second. I am gonna have some issues to deal with next year.....

I did copy and paste but it would come up blank maybe jayski put something on his webpage to keep that from happin

there its is it worled for me!

Oh gawd, Rusty will surely be whining about that move if he doesn't win 15 races next year.

If indeed this finally is announced another Ford team jumps ship, strange based on the current manufacturers points and Penske's success this year to boot. Plus near as I can determine most seem convinced that NASCAR is gonna crush any hopes that Dodge. Penske must be oblivious to all this.:)

MLiteFan, Were you a Rusty fan when for the years he ran Pontiacs? Just curious

For the Ford folks, look for more money and support to go the Woods Bros way now. If the team doesn't make a good show next season with a proven vet behind the wheel and a whole slew of help from Ford I may be convinced the second gerneration of Woods just don't get it.

HS, I was in fact a Rusty fan back then. At the time I didn't really care about the makes, I wasn't even old enough to drive. If I had to choose I would rather see him go back to the Pontiacs, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

LOL, just wondered cause I have quite a few pals who are (were) Rusty fans then and faced much the same dilemma you do now. Some of them were died in the wool anti Blue Oval folks and abandoned Rusty. Others were died in the GM fans and most of them seemed to make the change over time.

Somehow I have a gut feeling that Rusty would much prefer to remain in a Ford. Best of luck to the team regardless.

Well, it could in fact help his situation. He has been running Fords for so long that he doesn't know anything else. He is going to have to rely more on the team to figure out the car set ups and not so much on his memory. We'll see I guess.

It will be interesting to see what the final word on this is going to be. Team Penske would no doubt be a big win for team Dodge and a big loss for Ford if they can't retain them.
