People complained last year because the champion had less wins then other competitors. Look at the stats of the leader going into the last race compared to others.

Kurt Busch : Wins: 3 / Top 5: 9 / Top 10: 20

Jimmie Johnson: Wins: 8 / Top 5:19 / Top 10: 22
Jeff Gordon: Wins: 5 / Top 5: 15 / Top 10:24
Dale Jr: Wins: 6 / Top 5: 16 / Top 10:21

notice kurt doesnt have more then any of them in any of these?

But, Smack..........Kurt ain't gonna win!! :) My dollar's on Jimmie!! :beerbang:

I never was behind the idea "the one with the most wins, win." You may have 10 wins but you may also have 10 dnfs.....If someone does think the one with the most wins should be champion, is not being fair.

What if a guy has 36 2nd places and a guy with 2 wins and 34 DNF's won the cup?

I have thought for many years that the points should be more front loaded. With the winner getting a whole bunch more points than 2ed place and maybe the top 5 getting a lot more than the rest of the field. This would cause the drivers to make runs to win so as to get their points up from a dnf.. Or some other bad luck.
Racing, after all, is about who comes in first. The winner should get lots more points than the rest of the field. Maybe a point for each DOLLAR he wins more than 2ed place?

IN 4 seasons the Champion has had only 1 race win throughout the Cup history of NASCAR,2 of those Champs wer in the pre-modern era, while the other 2 were in modern-ear,namely in 1973 it was Benny Parsons and then last year it was Matt Kenseth.
There are many examples of season's when the Champion didn't have the most wins, but the Championship was about consistency, not winning the most. This year though it's an entertainment based points format that's for show rather than crowning the "best" driver for the entire season's accomplishments.
btw,Jeff Gordon has led each and every week under the old points system during this C4C segment and Jeff's still My pick to win it all and bring home Cup #5!

It's interseting to note that Jaime McMurray would currently have been 7th in the points system if He'd made the cut-off,while Jeremy Mayfield would've been in 13th position, also note that Jaime's 22 Top 10's tie Jimmie Johnson's number for the 2nd most Top 10's among the drivers. :beerbang: Too bad that Jaime was messed over by NASCAR.I'm sure there will be very similar senarios each year that this current C4C format is utilised,JMHO. :growl:

Good points Thunder, but we will probably never see that scenario again.
I expect a lot more changes are coming in 2005.

If kurt does win, Im guessing he will be the first champion to have less wins, top 5s, top 10s, and more dnfs then several of his competitors?

Really didn't care much for KB but, wish him luck in the last race. This was the Chase NASCAR has given and Busch has taken advantage. I was really impressed that he got the pole for Homestead which gives him the advantage
to lead the first lap and get the bonus points. As far as the driver with the most wins getting the Championship that would be great but, that is not the way the system is set up. It's still about consistency. May the best man win! Or should I say may the best driver win.

I was against changing the point system to start with and still am not happy with it. Just because of such a scenario as this. I know IF Kurt were to win, it would bring cries of derision---which would hardly seem fair to me. Kurt Busch didnt design this new system after all: NASCAR did. All Kurt is doing is what he had to. Step up and adapt to the current system, on that he has done an excellent job.

And if Kurt does manage to ultimately beat the other four guys in this last ten race stretch one thing is certain:

They each and every one had exactly the same--no more and no less---chance as Kurt did over the final races.

This C$C is still NOT designed to reward "Consistancy"!!!
As in the case of JJ, and JG, they each have more wins, more top 5's and more top 10's than KB.
Sooooooo, it is just MHO that NASCAR has tossed consistency right out the window!!!!!

SOME people complained.

Some of us understand the concept of a full season.

Impounding the cars after qualifying and no more Happy Hour will make a serious impact on some teams.
