Percocet(sp?) rules

I had never taken Percocet(sp?) before this week. I strained my back pretty bad at work this weekend and I ended up having to go to the hospital. They gave me some muscle relaxers and some Percocet.

It is some good stuff. They say it can be habit forming and I have no doubt about that. This stuff is giving me flashbacks to my younger days. Only this stuff is perfectly legal. :p

My back is really messed up too, be careful about how you take that stuff, you get a nasty hangover type downer when the pain killers are gone. The stuff is addicting even if your doctor tells you it isn't.

4x, if you have some pain, but not as much as you have been experiencing, you can cut those pills in half and just take part of it.
These are very addicting....if you don't have pain, don't take them. If the pain gets worse or does not subside, see your doctor. If you've taken one before the doctor, have someone drive you. Driving and these things don't mix.

WHAT? cut in half? Heck I take 2. LOL (kidding) After my surgery the doctor prescribed them WOW they knock me out! I can see how the could be habit forming!

I have taken that stuff. It pretty good. But crap when you have had by-pass surgery, pacemaker put in and tendons put back in your hand and otherstuff. you take everything. Demerall, Morphine and a bunch more.

Good advise as usual NW

I tried to go back to work on wednesday taking only Tylenol as the doctor recommended. Yeah, right
That was like putting a band-aid on a broken leg.

I had to take a percocet to get me through the rest of the day. It worked great once I got past the initial light- headedness.

I am definitely not taking them when I don't need to. The side affects are kind of rough...dry-mouth, mild nausea etc.

Thanks for your concern all. I just really screwed up my back moving some pretty heavy duty truck tires over the weekend. But, it will get better. The muscle relaxers have already really calmed the spasms and the pain will lessen eventually I am sure. They plan to start me on physical therapy soon too.

My wife just started taking Ultracet...she has 3 ruptured discs in her back...

I think it's a slightly 'nicer' version of percacet...not as many side effects...anyway it's made a world of difference.

Thank goodness someone figured out how to make those things, we were getting to the point of good ole fashioned 'horse treatment'* to cure the pain....

* Horse Treatment ---
Ailment - - - - - Cure
--------------------------------------
Broken Leg - - - Shoot the horse
Fever - - - - - - - Shoot the horse
Limping - - - - - - Shoot the horse
......you get the idea

ps- I love my wife! I was at least another week away from 'treating' her! ahah ah ah aha ha....

;)

My doc says i have a ruptured disk in my back also, he has been treating me with all kinds of different pain meds and nerve blockers. I'll tell you what it sucks big time, half the time i can't work or work out ( i work for a buddy who has his own lawncare business and i'm a budding personal trainer, so i need to use my body everyday physically) and it messes with my short term memory. I'll never take the nerve blockers again no matter what degree of pain i'm in. Also i had a very bad reaction to some stuff called Tramadol, my wife had to come home from work, i almost had to go to the E room to treat the reaction. Whatever you due read all the side effects of the meds. Even though i followed the perscribed dosages on the bottle, read up on all the literature concerning the meds , i still had a bad time with the Tramadol. Be careful because everyones metabolism is different and meds can react one way with "you", but toataly different with another person.

A friend and I were cutting down six of my 11 trees in my backyard the other day. I was pull with the rope, he was cutting with the chainsaw...I managed to "catch" one of the trees with my arm and shoulder...ouch. Just been taking Aleve though, but then again, I'm young and virile. Now, the problem is that I have to go and cut all the limbs off the trees, then cut them up, then get them in a pile, then I get to cut up the trunks and stack that...if only i needed the wood, it would be different. but i'm sore as hell

Aw sweetie, I'm soooo sorry to hear about this!

You may also need to check on the muscle reaxants side effects because some are also stomach irritants and I got a dang bleeding ulcer from Naproxin a while back.

Aleve and Motrin IB (if you don't have an ulcer) are great OTC pain relievers!

Kat...so very true about the OTC anti-inflamatory meds, they due give stomach irritation if you take them for a prolonged time period. Be real careful with Ibuprofen, that stuff can give you problems in a heartbeat.

Kat, if you got a bleeding ulcer from Naproxin, then you need to stop using Aleeve. All Aleeve is, is the OTC of Naproxin.

Just thought I would let you know that.

I KNOW Star, and I have serious back problems but only use Tylenol now.

Even Aspirin will tear up the stomach!

I have stomach issues too. I had Barrett's Esophagus. Praise God that has been cured, but I still have a pretty screwed up stomach and I have no desire to have Barrett's again.

They told me Ibuprophen and Mountain Dew were the number 1 & 2 causes of the Barrett's. Barrett's is precancerous and brutal. Nothing to take any chances with.

I fell 40 ft at work two 1/2 years ago. I landed on my feet. Blew out my L2,3, 4,5 and busted up my feet. I have been going to a pain clinic at the UW Hosp and came up with a pretty good combo of druge that are non addicting
Vioxx, Zonegran, and Nortriptyline. I'ts really hard to find the right combonation of drugs and still function as a normal person. Good luck on your case.
