Talladega has a reputation for rewarding drivers who are down on their luck, and Sunday was no exception. Including the winner, six of the top seven finishers had or matched their season's best finish. The full rundown - not counting the winner - is as follows:
- Kevin Harvick in 2nd
- Elliott Sadler in 3rd
- Terry Labonte in 5th
- Sterling Marlin in 6th
- Ward Burton in 7th
- Kyle Petty in 11th
- John Andretti in 14th
- Tony Raines in 16th
- Matt Kenseth has extended his top-10 streak to seven straight races. The next highest active streak is three, by Jeff Gordon.
- Terry Labonte's 5th was his first top 5 overall since Infineon last year, and his first top 5 at an oval track since the first Atlanta race in 2001.
- Ricky Craven scored his best career Talladega finish with a 4th place. In the last seven races, he has matched his top 5 total from the entire 2003 season.
- Kyle Petty's 11th was his best run since this race one year ago, when he finished 10th.
What's the Points?
- Elliott Sadler made the biggest gain in points, leap-frogging from 20th to 10th.
- Michael Waltrip's run in the top 5 in points ended, as he fell to 7th.
- Matt Kenseth has now lead the points for 5 straight weeks.
- Ricky Craven is the highest single-car team driver, in 6th. The next highest single car team is the Wood Brothers and Ricky Rudd, who are in 19th.
- Only half of last year's top-10 points finishers are currently in the top-10 in points - but none of those who aren't are more than 78 points out.
