Petty and Fittipaldi

I gotta say it wasn't bad seeing Petty and Fittipaldi finish 27th and 29th considering they Qualified in Provisional land but why dont they get rid of Mike Edge I don't Understand in qualifying they were 4mph slower than Stewart that tells you that your motors suck

No Question here, Petty will continue going south until he switches engine builders to higher profile engine builders like Richie Gilmore (Dale Earnhardt Inc.) or Randy Dorton (Hendrick Motorsports). This finish is very small compared to what they were able to get in 2002 with a couple of top 10s, maybe a top 5 here or there and pretty solid or decent finishes.

I think Petty had everything in motion right now for them to start having success, they have the drivers. All they need is the engine and the extra horsepower and they'll be back fighting for the lead in no time.

Kyle also needs to notice that at Daytona, two of his cars failed to make the race. And in years before, we've seen Buckshot Jones, John Andretti and Kyle Petty himself not qualify in some races and it's because of their engine program and clearly, yes Mike Edge is working 96 hours a week and works very hard to build these engines and I'm pretty sure the racing community understands that, but the engines just arent good enough to match the horsepower of the other teams like Penske, Roush, Earnhardt, Hendrick or Childress. But in the post race interview, we heard Kyle talk about some new "engine packages" him and Christian Fittipaldi are running and I think it is pointing them in the right direction. All they need to succeed besides that is a good starting position, if they had those good starting positions then they'd be in contention for the race. They may not come up with a win this season but I think improvement should start showing before the seasons done.

They need a new engine builder, plain and simple. He is working hard, but not hard enough. Maybe its just Kyle though...he may just be cheap...

I would like to see what happenes in the next few weeks since Kyle lit a fire uder the engine department! If the Ege motors get better it will not only improve the 43 and 45 cars it will help the 7 and 49 as well and the 07 of Musgrave who is going to run a few times this year

i think ward22 i right the pettys are cheap.
serves them right i know i am in the minority here but i can't stand PE wouldn't bother me if they DNQ'ed every race.

This is something that irkes me about PE:

Kyle Petty is constantly mentioning the 5 year plan to turn the team around. Five freaking years! Since when did it take 5 years to turn a team around? Best example I can give is RCR. Basically RCR died with DE, it took them 2 years to turn it around and now 2 of the 3 cars are in the top 15 in points. It took Roush 1 year to turn their problems around. I dont buy into this 5 year plan, I feel that this is an excuse being used by the Petty's to run poorly and buy some time with the sponsors until they leave, or a miracle happens with their performance. Im sure they are not happy with the performance of PE.

Petty performance:
1999 = 97 points per race
2000 = 75 points per race
2001 = 69 points per race
2002 = 97 points per race
2003 = 80 points per race

Sorry, but I dont buy this story of a 5 year plan.

The only problem with Petty Enterprises is that everyone is gettng too overdemanding of a team which has somewhat lost its winning ways. Their momentum really carried through the 70s but fell through the 80s. In the early 90s, they did pretty well with Bobby Hamilton and John Andretti at the helm of the 43 as they scored a couple of wins.

I dont think they're doing poorly, they're just not winning. Last year like I said they were scoring some good finishes, now they're improving only little by little. Many teams go through the same rebuilding process like for example, Jeff Burton who didnt do very well last year but is starting to turn things around and Dale Jarrett who this year is in 29th in points but is trying to get the team back up to championship form for next year. I dont think it's an excuse for basically being wrecked by other cars every race but it's a rebuilding program, plain and simple.

they just need a turnaround and im sure it will come soon
