Petty Enterprises announced today a change in the leadership of the #45 Georgia Pacific/Brawny Dodge driven by Kyle Petty. The move was sparked by the departure of team engineer Adam Stevens to Joe Gibbs Racing, after which the team elected to part company with crew chief Bill Henderson.

“When we made the change to put Adam and Bill in charge of the 45 team in August of last year, we looked at it as a combination effort,” said Petty, CEO of Petty Enterprises. “When Adam came back from the Christmas holiday and told us of his intention to take an offer with Gibbs, we decided to reevaluate the leadership of the team.”

Petty is currently exploring options. “We have made a number of significant moves forward since the end of the season. Note this......Our relationship with Evernham Motorsports supplying our engines is the most public of those moves. We intend to have an experienced crew chief and team engineer in place when we leave for the first race in Daytona,” Petty said. “I have a lot of faith in the 45 team, our engineering group and the rest of the team in Level Cross that we will be competitive right out of the box in 2005.”

Petty Enterprises and the 45 team take the track for the first time with their new Evernham engine package next week at the season’s first official test at Daytona International Speedway.

I would love to see Kyle Petty have a comeback this season. He's a great guy and never gives up.

It has become a revolving door over there. It takes the big bucks to be competitive. I hope these moves aren't only about money.

Kyle and Richard are 2 of my favorites and no one can deny what they have done and accomplished with the Victory Junction Camp. That said, I know that Lee Petty was as tight as they come with the $$$$ and I believe that some of the tightness has rubbed off on Richard when it comes to spending his own money on the racing team.

I don't think there's a greater guy in Nascar than Kyle Petty but if it's competitiveness he's looking for, I think he's looking in the wrong spot.

I see retirement as the only option for Kyle to improve the 45 team. As much as I hate to say it, he doesn't have the competitive edge anymore.

agreed

Kyle needs to take over everday duties and fix the garage and crew problems.
Then get aggresive in the pursuit of these young drivers coming up.
Maybe if DEI and MIke Waltrip part ways,Which has been rumored several times.Mike will never be top dog under JR
Mike could drive for Kyle since he has connections to Randolph County.
Then they would have a mentor for young drivers
