Petty and Evernham Merger?
It's been no secret lately that both Evernham Motorsports and Petty Enterprises are looking for support outside NASCAR.

Montreal Canadians owner George N. Gillett Jr. has gone on record has saying that he wants to get into the sport of NASCAR. Gillett approached Ray Evernham and the two reportedly have discussed an investment.

There is now a whisper that Petty Enterprises may get into the mix with Gillett and Evernham. Richard Petty was recently a guest of Gillett at a Canadiens home game against the New York Rangers. Gillett is talking to both teams and there is the possibility that both organizations could eventually merge.

"We buy a lot of our stuff from Evernham, so he wants to know, 'Are we still a customer, or are we going to somebody else?'" said Petty last weekend at Martinsville Speedway. "They've got to formalize what they're talking about. Everything's pretty much on hold for (Easter) vacation for the next week. I don't know how far along they are or whether I'm part of their discussions at all."

I knew both sides had been talking to Gillett, but the thought of a merger never crossed my mind. As a long-time fan of the Pettys, I'm not sure what to think about that possibility.

but remember the 4 car cap. Labonte + Petty + Kahne + Mayfield + Riggs doesn't equal four.

I forecast petty retiring maybe, or just a share of everything under 2 owners.

You mean Sadler instead of Mayfield. Maybe if this happens, they'll try to get this done before the end of the year and use the grandfathered stipulation that Roush will be using.

i want to see Petty Enterprises be in this sport a long long time..but lets face it...they dont have the resources to be as competitive as the other teams do...maybe this is a good thing for them.

Ive pretty much given up on Kyle getting back in victory lane to dedicate the win to Adam :(
