Labonte & Petty Could Switch Cars: Bobby Labonte could find himself in the #45 instead of the 43 at Petty Enterprises should Kyle Petty fall out of the top 35 in Nextel Cup owners' points over the next five weeks. Petty said he would consider switching cars with his teammate so both would be guaranteed a starting spot, him on Labonte's points [17th] and Labonte on his past champion's provisional, the remainder of this season. That also could help for next season if Labonte could race the #45 back into the top 35 that will be guaranteed a spot the first five races of 2008. "Yeah, we'd consider it," Petty said Saturday between practices at Martinsville Speedway. "I'm not gonna lie. Look, as long as they don't change the rules and the rulebook is written that way, we're in the business to run racecars. We have two racecars, the 43 and 45. Whatever it takes to get those in, I don't see the issue with it."(ESPN.com)

Kyle...race your own car, Let the cards fall where they may.....Follow the light to the booth

Maybe Kyle should wake up to the fact that he is better in the booth than in the car. He has flashes of decent runs, but far more bad ones. PE needs a young driver anyway to continue on and with Labonte in the top 20 should show that PE has potential. I really like Kyle but his time has passed and for the sake of PE he needs to address the future.
This also just further expose the past champion BS and the top 35 problems. At a minimum the PC needs to go. All it does is give the old champions a paycheck and a free qualifying at the expense of teams and drivers actually working to get in.
The top 35 I would like to see eliminated or reduced to no more than the top 10 or 15. By rights it ought to be qualify by speed.
