CONCORD, N.C. -- Petty Enterprises team mechanic Charles "C.B." Lee passed away in his Asheboro, N.C., home on Tuesday night.

Lee, 57, had been with PE since 1999 and came to NASCAR Winston Cup Series racing in the 1980's after working with A.J. Foyt during his Indy car days. Lee moved to North Carolina to join Foyt's team during his NASCAR days.

Foyt left NASCAR in the late 1980's and Lee stayed in the area and went to work with Stavola Brothers, Bobby Allison Motorsports and Bahari Racing. While working at Bahari, Lee worked with crew chief Doug Hewitt and Gary Putnam.

It was Hewitt who brought Lee with him from Bahari when he went to work with the Pettys. His wife, his 22-year-old son and teen daughter survive Lee.

GOD Bless his family
