Just answered the phone, guy says is this SST? I say yes. He says before he continues I need to confirm my SS number. I tell him why don't you give me the number you have for me and I'll confirm or deny...<CLICK>

Pretty good for first thing in the morning and only half a cup of coffee, huh?

Wow. Wouldn't you just like to get your hands on one of those dirtbags for 5 minutes?
I had some furball try to pull one of those Nigerian scams on me for an item that I had listed on Craigslist. Those guys really chap my hide.

That's why i don't even answer the phone unless I know who it is on the caller ID.

Hey, at least you took care of it quickly. A few years ago I got a call and the guy asked if this was buckaroo. I said yes and then he goes into this rant about me not paying my bill for 900 calls. I told him that I never made any of those calls, who needs them. He went on to tell me what phone number I used, what city it was from and more. I asked him if he knew where I lived. He said such and such. Ha, I told him where I lived and that he had the wrong buckaroo. I said, look at the number you called and see that the area code was different. He actually tried to convince me that I was the right person. I asked him where he was from and who he worked for. The guy was from New Jersey and he was a private eye working for some collection company. I finally told him that if he wants to take action against me that he better start now. When and if I get any notification of that sort, I would submit his name to my attorney. He finally said that he must have the wrong party. Oh, btw, he actually played for me one of the calls where he gave his name and phone number. His accent was clearly of a different ethnicity.

SST, were you alert enough to call 911 and register a complaint? The police can then get the phone record (no, they don't need to have the caller online for 2 minutes to trace the call) of that call and go arrest the crook.

911 gets real testy if you call and nobody is bleeding. Here it's *57:

*57 - Customer Originated Trace - Provides the recipient of an obscene, harassing, or threatening call the ability to request an auto-trace of the last call received.

And nope I didn't, I was only half way through my first cup, lucky I answered at all.
