photo sizes

Just wondering why I'm only able to post tiny photos sometimes, and huge ones at other times.

Last night, I kept shrinking that stupid food photo in Photoshop until it was small enough to be acceptable. It turned out pretty tiny. Very next post, I get the huge one in there, only 90% smaller than the actual photo size.

What's up with that?

Boo, I think it's the actual file size, not the photo size, that matters. Paul can tell you for sure, but I think the limit is around 45k.

boo, I have the same problem with picture posting, but I don't have anything to resize in my puter.
I asked this ? in a previous thread and never got an answer except size is limited to etc.
Others seem to be able to post pics that take up almost the whole post while I can't even post pics that I or others have posted before.

MEOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW?????????

Hmmm...not sure what the problem is then. Paul will have to figure this one out.

You can see that the file size of the bigger picture is only slightly larger than the smaller picture.

But, why is that? It just doesn't make sense. Every photo size in between the two extremes was deemed unacceptable. The small one is what I had to do to the large one to get it to upload. I didn't change resolution, color, or anything else but size.

Weird...

Not sure why photos create such confusing file sizes but they do.

I use a program called PhotoImpact which has an option in the "save file as" menu that lets you designate the target file size. It will then attempt to save the file at that size without resizing the photo itself. Works 90% of the time.

Other photo programs may have this option as well.

What was the error that it was giving you? Was it telling you that the file was too large or that the dimensions were out of whack?

And, as HS said, images are funky like that.

Yeah, it was telling me the file was too large. I didn't bother to check the file size, as I just assumed it would be proportionately smaller.

Going to check Photoshop now to see if it has that file size option. Couldn't find one before, but then, I don't do a whole lot with the program. Thanks for the tip, HS. :)

Nope, can't figure out how to adjust photos in Photoshop (6.0) by file size. According to their help file, "Optimizing by File Size", you can do this, but the option doesn't seem to exist on my palette menu.

Anyone here (cough!Paul) know anything about Photoshop, maybe can help me out?
