Mopardh9, that is a remote area up there. We have driven that route enroute to Quebec from Bar Harbor. We used to vacation up near Moosehead lake on a smaller lake called Lake Onawa. This year we are going to Bar Harbor the first week in September.

I was at Moosehead last year, this year i drove in 41 miles off of route 201 to a place called Biatte, had to walk another mile and a half after that to get to the pond. I learned to fly fish on this pond when i was 9, 37 years ago. Looked pretty much like i remember it only more beautiful.:) :) :) If i could i would quit my job right now and move up to the Forks area in a second. Reality sinks in quickly and at my age doing something like that would be too risky, maybe if i was 10-15 years younger and single i would do it. I know the woods from Caratunk to Jackman quite well and have fished over 30 of the ponds and lakes in that area over the last 40 years.

Maine is a wonderful place and their pace of life is great. That is why their slogan is:

"The Way Life Should Be".

Yeh no kidding too bad the entire country isn't like that huh!?:)

Nice pics. Looks VERY relaxing...

Thanks that it was, a nice one cold by the fire after fishing....can't beat it, no one to bother you for at least 20 miles and just a few Moose walking by to wake you up at 1:30 at night.:) :beerbang:

Beautiful pics, Mopar. Sure wish I was up there, right now.

And those fish ---- made my mouth water.

Only problem with living in Maine --- they have WINTER up there. And this thin-blooded Southerner can't take the cold.

Ahh yes but winter is big money up there if there is plenty of snow. You can ride out or 500 miles all the way into the heart of Canada from where i fish on a sled. Snowmobiling is to winter what white water rafting is to summer for the economy in that area. I'm planning on buying a new sled this year and spending a long 4 day weekend the end of Jan. snowmobiling on the trails, providing mother nature cooperates.

Will you go ice fishing?

How far is it from West Falmouth (I lived there as a kid)?

That is on the coast i beleive..... go inland up 95 to 201 in Waterville, stay on 201 for about 70 miles and you will be in the Forks area. No don't like ice fishing much, love snowmobiling though.

Here are the pics from the place i had to hike in about 1.5 miles from the road. This about 6-7 miles east of the Canadian border in the Township of Biatte. The land is owned by the Pasamoquoddy Indians.

Kewl!

How far from Unity? That's where my daughter was graduated from, and she also hiked the Appalation Trail.

West Falmouth is inland from Portland.

That is some pretty land. I hope someday to get up there and see the Northeast.

And the special part...........the "loons". What a beautiful sound.

Did you have any on the lake where you were fishing mopard.

Yes i actually called in a few, i can make the identical sound a loon can make by blowing into my clenched hands. I used to drive my cousins crazy doing it because loons would always call back.....kind of destroyed the awesome quite you get on a remote pond.....lol.
Pic of loons: can't see them too well but they were driving my dog nuts thrashing around and catching all my fish...lol

That's not that impressive. We have several posters on this very board who can sound like a loon...
