It is easy to get confused comparing pics and things like spoiler widths and heights *because* Daytona/Talladega cars are very different from what raced at other venues. The restrictor plate cars are all about reducing drag. Other cars are all about max downforce.
 
those hurt my eyes..might be why some of the weaker stomached fans couldn't watch the races anymore. Saving grace that 27 car with ol Jacques driving didn't stay that way for long

I've been treating this thread as a lot more chronological than anything else, but yeah I hear ya.
 
The gen 6 really is clean as hell. Would like to see the quarter panels not be sails but it's sexy otherwise.

The extra sheet metal down low behind the wheel opening is there to reduce the volume of air that gets under the car in yaw at speed. Helps keep the tires on the track.

Yeah but before that they just had spoilers and similar rear quarters
