Pit Boards???

Reckon these teams don't even bring one to the track anymore, huh.

Kyle's ear plug fell out and he could not hear his crew on the radio. NASCAR agreed to show him the black flag when the CC wanted him to pit under green. I suppose under caution as well. If Kyle had no clue that was gonna happen, imagine his thoughts when suddenly the black flag is thrown in his face!:D

Still a pit board would have got the job done, mebbe the teams should consider throwing one in the trailer. Lord knows practically everything else is in there.

But HS would he think of looking when he passed the pit lane? Drivers are so used to the radio that I bet it would take several laps with some poor pit crewman standing on the pit wall holding up a sign saying "PIT"!! And once he saw it would he pit next lap? But, you're right......some alternate way of communicating is in order. The team that comes up with a pit board and some type of acknowledgement system really has a jump on others.....bet Petty Interprises comes up with something.:)

Sounds like a great idea HS. There seems to be no reason not to. But would NASCAR allow a team member to be off the pit wall with a board in his hand? Not really sure...

And, could a driver even "see" a pit board with all the other signs and stuff on pit road?

The only way would be to have the pit board on the back stretch, or have someone on the wall track-side -- on the wall between pit road and the track itself.

As soon as the radio went out a crewman would begin using the board, hopefully Kyle would look over there sometime befopre the lap he need to pit and then know the deal. He just waves his hand to acknowledge he see it.

The crewman stands either on top of the pit wall or behind it. For that matter he could climb up on the war wagon. Far as I know there are no regs against it. For many years it was the only way the crew communicated with the drivers.

I didn't even realize that they don't use them!! I know that CART & IRL still use them. I've got a pic of Ashley Judd holding up Dario's at last yrs mid ohio race. (she wanted to be "involved" with the team) It makes sense to use them simply because radio's do go out quite often in all different leagues......
