Pit Box Rules

While watching the race Dale jr. almost drove past his pit box (maybe first round of stops?) he ended up getting in to his box on almost a 45 degree angle. My question is, I thought that the rule was that in order to make a pit stop the car had to be serviced inside the pit box? The back end of Dale's car was sticking out in the drive lane...

As long as three tires are in the pitbox it is a legal stop.

Oh, o.k. thanks Bowtie....hey would that make Gordon's stop legal including two guys on the hood? :D

Let me rephrase that, as long as 3 tires and all the pit equipment are in its good, I think.

I think the 3 tires in rule is only if the right rear is the one that is out... The right front can't be out - wasn't it Stewart that got penalized for that recently?

You are correct, rctoyguy. Tony was penalized earlier this year for pitting "out of his box".

"Now, a stop with the guys on the hood --- I don't think the rule book covers that. "

I think yopu can have up to five guys on the hood.

Acually, I don't think there is a limit to how many guys you can have on the hood. as long as thier feet do not touch the ground, they are technically not on pit road. :p

 Oh please. I think the number depends on who the driver is... :p

I am a big Gordon fan but I can not figure out why Jeff pulled in that far from his pit box. It looked like about two pits boxes before his. I was wondering if that pit road makes it a little hard to find your pit box?? I did see Jr. almost miss his so it must be so, but Jeff was way off. Oh well everybody makes mistakes even my Jeffie............

New rule:: you may have two or more guys on the hood as long as the tire carrier hangs on to the tire.

Marlin was penalized for it in yesterday's race right? He was held for one lap. FF through thought I caught that.

Sterling was penalized for pitting out of his box. Sure they didnt specify how he was positioned in the pits, but it sure would have been interesting to see if the TV televised it.
