Last race of the season, Hamlin and Johnson are only divided by 15 points, and Harvick is only behind 46 points. This is the "7th game" race, whoever wins at Homestead, or finish ahead of everyone else takes the Championship. Who's it going to be?

My bet is, Johnson with 10 points or less ahead of Hamlin.

Screw it I'll go for the longshot:beerbang:

Denny has been very hot and even though he had a bad break at Phoenix, I think he will have bigger trouble at Homestead. Would love to see Harvick take the top spot, but bad, really bad things would have to happen to Jimmie and Denny. Johnson is just to consistent.

Yea, that's the thing about Johnson, he wasn't rocketing to the front like Harvick and Hamlin was earlier in the race today, he was just working at it throughout the entire race and it pays off.

Honestly I see Hamlin trying to drive too hard at Homestead, I see his frustration with what happened today at Phoenix carrying on into the final race.

Johnson, he may be vanilla, but he's just one of those cool headed guys who's able to remain consistent throughout the chase.

Harvick ...Johnson crashes, and Denny has a bad pit stop.

If I have to bet, I've got to go with Johnson.

Going with the heart, I want Harvick to take the title as he's earned the most points for the season.

2010 actual points earned
5109 - Kevin Harvick
4814 - Jimmie Johnson
4744 - Denny Hamlin

Average finish
8.829 - Kevin Harvick - Ranks first
12.457 - Jimmie Johnson - Ranks third
12.914 - Denny Hamlin - Ranks sixth

I bet on the Pats last night and won....Going with Harvick....he has it under control, the other 2 guys don't.

I dunno, even with Johnson conserving fuel and Hamlin pretty much done for the race, Harvick still couldn't get into the top five yesterday.

You know, if they're going to keep The Chase, they should at least give a trophy to the points leader in the regular season. While I do want Johnson to win #5, I do feel bad for Harvick, he showed a strong lead going into The Chase, he was at the front of the points, and blah.

Leads in points, leads in average finish and is in third place,,,,,WTF?

The "chase" needs to go bye-bye

It won't happen... it will only get more complicated due to the closeness of the finish this year.

Harvick & crew pretty much backed into that finish yesterday after their failed pit stop.

Unfortunately you are correct.

Some other interesting numbers from the Chase. Had they not implemented the seeding bonus for wins the difference between 1st & 3rd would have been 16 points.....

Points earned during the Chase races.....

Denny Hamlin - 1402 points
Jimmie Johnson - 1397 points
Kevin Harvick - 1386 points

I want Harvick to win. But I hope this happends the other way around. Hamlin wrecks and Johnson using the #24 pit crew screws up oh the irony it would be.

I'd like to see Hamlin and Johnson wreck each other while Harvick wins the race and the championship. Then, in victory lane, Harvick gives NASCAR a big hearty "**** you" for their flawed welfare points system.

Gee manee, is there someone here who doesn't like the Chase? I wonder who people will take it when in twenty years they change the format. I can see many who will use the Chase format for their arguments.

BTW, I favor Harvick.

My hopes is that Brian France won't make any changes after this season is done.

If they're not going to eliminate the Chase format all together and go back to the scoring that awarded the best driver/team of the year, leave it alone. Continually changing the rules as to how the NASCAR champion is determined does nothing more than make a mockery of the entire sport. Brian France speaking out at the beginning of the 2010 Chase about possibly changing the system once again was an idiotic move. Today, with the top 3 teams heading into the final race of the Chase separated by 46 points only magnifies the stupidity in those statements. We're now being told each week that we're witnessing the most exciting Chase in the history of the sport. If he further waters down the playoff system with additional changes for 2011 and beyond then I'll be further convinced of his inability to manage a sport that was handed to him to carry on. /rant off/

Agreed!!

Agreed. Not every Homestead race is going to be a "7th game" race. Hel, not every World Series end in a "game 7", it's just a fact of life, get used to it.

One change I would approve of however is a regular season trophy, reward the driver who is 1st in points at the end of the regular season with a trophy and 1st place in The Chase format.

Maybe I am selfish but I am so tired of seeing JJ win these. It would be nice to see someone else win the chase for once.

I sure agree with that but I'll tell you what..... After seeing Hamlin dejected like he was after last weeks race and hearing his post race remarks in the media center, he sounded like a beaten man. He'd better turn around his attitude, real quick. Johnson, on the other hand, sounded cool, calm & collected. Harvick knows that their team got away with a huge mistake on pit road last week and that allowed him to stay in the hunt. Hamlin has everything to lose this weekend with a tremendous amount of pressure to produce. He can come in second and still lose the championship to Johnson. That's incredible IMO. Johnson and Harvick being behind have nothing to lose but yet has everything to gain by going all out. Can't wait to see how this all plays out. Go Harvick!

I agree totally. Currently it means nothing to have been the leader going into the Chase. I might go back to the old rule that they had with the previous years champion but modified somewhat. How about they give the regular season leader first pit selection each week during the 10 week Chase? That seems to me to be a privilege that could be earned by being the leader coming into the Chase.

That could work. There has to be SOMETHING in there to reward the driver who's in first place going into The Chase. Harvick should've gotten something.

Just saw this posted somewhere.....

If #Harvick wins Sun.; #Hamlin finishes 8th w/o leading lap & Johnson finishes 6th w/o leading lap, #Harvick will win Cup. #NASCAR

I like this scenario and it's entirely possible.

LOL ...so is winning the lottery!

My prediction is that Hamlin will wreck coming out of a turn going too fast. It'll damage the car enough for him to have to make a pit stop under green, it'll put him two laps down. His championship hopes are shot. Why am I predicting this? Mainly because of what I've seen in Texas and Phoenix. Hamlin and Ford are not collected and calm by any chance, and they let their emotions run their lives alittle too much. I think this will be Hamlin's downfall in Homestead.

Johnson will def. finish in the top 5, he may lead a lap or two, but I'm honestly not expecting anything seller out of him. Which is kinda disappointing since I am a Johnson fan.

Harvick will probably also finish in the top five, but I honestly don't see him winning the Championship. Which is sad, considering that he was in the lead (point wise) going into The Chase.

So in short, I'm expecting to see a replay of Phoenix, or close to it.

I have a question, is it possible for a tied in the points? Like what if Johnson and Hamlin ties up in the point, what will they do then?

Tie breakers, I think the first one is number of wins.

Chase or no chase, the last time we saw something this close was 1992 with 5 drivers going into the final race at Atlanta with all 5 having a legitimate shot at the title. Like I said chase or no chase it might be another 18 years or more before it's this close.
My prediction is Hamlin wrecks Johnson and himself with Harvick finishing fourth and taking the title.

What about 2004? The first year of the chase. Kurt Busch beat JJ by 8 points and Gordo by 16.
