POCONO Bonehead

Right now, I think NASCAR is the bonehead.

The guys who bought tickets before the race weekend, are feeling like the bonehead of boneheads right now though. They paid the money, they have to work on Monday. But NASCAR doesn't care, the TV contract is where the real money is.

The fans see this, and they will buy even less tickets next year. So many people will be left with the sour taste of being the "side money".

And I have to say, 11AM Sunday TV ratings would crush whatever crap ratings they will pickup tomorrow when the majority of NASCAR fans are hard at work.

NASCAR, you are not about the fans. That is obvious. They paid, and if they gotta work on monday, that ticket they bought is useless.

Maybe they could make the tickets a duel use product. If you can't watch the race, then use it for a napkin, toilet paper, maybe a gum parker.

??? Please 'splain.

As with most things there is a lot more to it then just simply starting the race 2 hours earlier. Besides the multitude of logistical reasons there are contractual reasons, the complexity of which are beyond what we can imagine.

Too freakin much. A bonehead would be the fan that doesn't plan for this eventuality. I'd never plan on going to a NASCAR race without planning on being there a couple extra days just in case of the event of rain. Fans that are unable to do that need to purchase the ticket insurance that they can get when they buy their tickets. It is for this very situation.

OMG ,please tell Nascar that Moe Joe is not with us . He wants to start the race two hours early in case of rain. 90% of American will miss half the race . There is your bonehead move right there.

I missed the Chicago Cup race last year due to rain. I should have planned on staying another day but I didn't. From then on I always book a hotel for the night of the race just on case I need to go back. Lesson learned.

In case of rain? It is going to RAIN

You guys obviously have the luxury of planning like that. In the world of "The grass is growing" doesn't work for me.

Well, if it does rain, 90% of Americans and 18% of Columbians will miss the whole race.

True, but you have the option of running 50 laps on your neighbors lawn if the race is postponed.

You intellectual elitist' don't give a damn about us average people.

I bet I could win at that. The neighbors mower is pretty slow. I got 23 horse Kawi with Hydo drive. No contest.

At least the ticket holders don't take it in the ass

And you obviously have the luxury of sitting at home with the ability to second guess how it all works. It's easy to sit at home and tell them what they should do when you have probably 2% knowledge of what all goes into it.

It all works for me, I am getting quality time with my son, and I will watch the race when it happens.

My worse case was Martinsville 92, run on a Monday, the ex wasn't happy I had promised her the day on Monday but the rain changed everything.

Geoff Bodine won in a Bud Moore car, Earnhardt had the Harmonic balancer to break or something like that ending his day after 50 laps. A big disappointment after waiting so long to see the race.

Bill Elliott came into the race with about a 200 plus point lead in a Junior Johnson car, he had a terrible day, and lost some of that lead to Kulwicki and Davey in their epic points battle (this was the Fall 92 event).

My pick goes to Jimmie Johnson -- overdrove the corner and threw away a sure thing win.

Jimmie Johnson Tweet:
I must have hit some debris under caution because I had a soft RR tire for the restart. I didn't know until turn 1 and things got exciting.

Before the race it was raining, and they had Marty Smith reporting in the rain rather than Nicole Briscoe.

MOEJOE, sorry, but I can't agree with you. Rain comes when it wants. I sat through the miserable conditions at Atlanta one year --- first finish under the lights at midnight because of rain/fog. I've been at Charlotte when the water was over my ankles in the parking lot. You adapt to the conditions --- they do not adapt to you. You just do not arbitrarily change the start time because there "MIGHT" be rain.

I was there as well, but unlike you, our bus had to be back home for the next day and we had to listen to the race on the bus on the radio. Crap happens and it can't be prevented.

I considered taking a last minute run over to Pocono, but the poor racing action and high probability of rain made me think better of it. I'm happy I stayed right where I am.
