What can they do to make this race less of a slumber party? Double-file restarts will help in the event of a caution, but what about the long green flag runs...:(

Have them drive the trucks.

IMO, the only thing that they could do is dirty up the car and make it run like a brick out front.

Shorten the race. There's no reason for Pocono to have two 500 mile races less than 2 months apart. I say give Pocono 1 race, and shorten it to either 300 or 400 miles.

Give Pocono 1 race?

The problem is, the fans show up for both Pocono races. They sell that track out, or come very close, every year for both races which is more than California and Atlanta can do. In fact, there are some tracks on the series that have one race a year with no competition from any other tracks that can't sell most of their tickets.

Pocono's fine. Before going and screwing the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast fans over (again), deal with the boring left coast track that can't sell 80% of their seats in a prime market.

Get rid of the left coast snoozefest that is California before talking about Pocono. At least fans show up to watch the Pocono races. :beerbang:

Did Andy just post two different messages, and say the same thing in each?

:eek2:

Well to be fair Andy is one of the few people who doesnt think Pocono is a snooze fest(even the drivers admit Pocono is boring), and I cant fault him for that. He is in the extreme minority though.

Pocono was much better before the gear rules.

Having different gears and having to shift seemed to make it more exciting.

Well, add me to that list. I also enjoy Pocono.

I have watched many races over the years and I can count on two hands the races I did not enjoy. Just call me a simpleton race fan. :D

Simpleton hell. Pocono is one of the best tracks on the circuit. You sure can't call it a cookie cutter. some one posted that the drivers don't like Pocono, not true. Most drivers love the challenge it gives them, and it is a challenge. If they want to make it better then undue the stupid gear rule they put in place.

Agreed

Muggle and Buck agree on something  Does anyone feel the ground getting cold in late July all of a sudden? :eek2:

What would you like to see done: Keep both Pocono races but shorten them, eliminate a Pocono race or change the track?

From Pete Pistone:

"How about a little of all three? First and foremost is the shortening of races to 400 miles. Dover did it, Rockingham did it a while back when it was on the Cup tour and Pocono needs to follow suit. No sporting event in the world should last for 4 1/2 hours, and Pocono provides some of the most boring races on the schedule. I'd like to see the track stay on the schedule but with one date at 400 miles. Take the second date and give it to Las Vegas or when a track gets built in the Pacific Northwest or Rocky Mountain areas. Finally the track needs to be repaved and upgraded; it's without a doubt the poorest on the tour on both counts. Simply put, Pocono needs to shape up or get shipped out."

I on the fence about losing a race but I cutting them to 400 miles absolutely.

It would be better if they were not so close together but do we really want one in the chase, not me and spring is not the time to go to the Poconos, so here we are

I like Pete Pistone but he can be an idiot some times.

If "long and boring" were the standard for losing Cup races, California and Texas would've been pulled off the schedule a long time ago. Both of those tracks have two 500 mile races and NASCAR hasn't even thought about touching their dates. And California has a lot more trouble selling tickets than Pocono does -- remember, Pocono is the only track in the NYC market.

Daytona, Richmond, Watkins Glen, Michigan, Southern California and Phoenix need repaving or reconfiguring more than Pocono.

And why does this ass say we need to take a second date from one track and give a second date to another track. The problem with NASCAR is too many tracks have two dates. Considering Atlanta, Michigan, Martinsville and Southern California have a hard time selling tickets, they should be on the chopping block before Pocono.

And if Pete Pistone used any one of his brain cells when writing this, he'd know the Northwest has Portland International Raceway which had a huge draw for the Camping World West race which aired earlier today on SPEED.

Once NASCAR takes dates from California, Michigan and Atlanta and has Cup races at Kentucky, Portland and Gateway (or maybe Pikes Peak?), I'll start *****ing about Pocono. Sorry Bobby, your boring ass Auto Club Speedway is in more trouble than Pocono.

People who don't live in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast market will never get it. The bottom line is the fans show up in capacity crowds every time they race there. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I love Pocono.

At least I can stay awake through the entire race unlike California, Michigan, Texas and Indy.

Andy count me as confused. Are you saying that I don't understand because I don't live in the MA/NE market? Dude I live less than 2 hours from Pocono.

No, I'm talking about the scheduling and them not racing in April or later in the year. I was saying the people in Southern California and in the St. Louis area don't get it.;)

I would love for Gateway to get a race, I could watch it, go to the Landing, and then hit White Castle before my hour drive home. Gateway isnt the most exciting racing in the world though.

Get some ice for your cranial vacuum leak. Pocono sucks butt and always has, even when they were shifting.
Don't you have some snow to shovel or some rain to deflect?

Speak for yourself. Granted there are some fans that simply prefer the cookie cutters and like to watch the same old boring races. However, Pocono is not a cookie cutter and will challenge the drivers, and many fans, myself included, appreciate a race where it takes some driving talent to get to the front and stay there.

I'll take Pocono over Southern California anyday.

I'm sure y'all are wishing you had some snow or ice or something that doesn't melt. ;) Enjoy the heat and humidity. :)
