before the old points system, wasn't there another one?
In essence, the new points system made the chase look closer than the old points system would have but the outcome was the same. Interesting.
Take away the chase and look
Butt we Race With The Chase, WHAT WOULD BE THE POINT???
Why, oh why, do y'all waste your energy on sh!t like this?
The system is what it is and making comparisons to what it would have been under a different system is just redonkulous, IMO.
But carry on...
Why would Racing sites keep posting it

The Chase is the most polarizing thing NASCAR's ever done.

I guess you have accepted the COT and forgotten about The Wing...
I don't see people, every single day, saying "who would've won the 2010 championship if they hadn't adopted the COT."
Seems to me there were a lot of folks who were knocked for a loop by the introduction of radial tires . Including Dale Sr. who might have had a championship or two taken away .
It's true that some drivers had a hard time adjusting to that change but most of the current crop of drivers never raced on bias ply tires.
BRING BACK BIAS PLY!
You said "most polarizing".
There are people who prefer one point system over another and those who just don't care what system is used.
But there was NOBODY who did NOT have an opinion on the COT when it was introduced. And NOBODY liked the wing.
That's all I was saying.
Yea, the wing was a total failure and I'm glad they brought back the spoiler.
I didn't like the COT at first, but I'll be honest, I came around to it and I now appreciate it due to the safety features that keep the drivers safe.
