Kurt Busch moved just ahead of Jeff Gordon into third place in the points standings after Richmond.

Who'd a thunk that at this point in the season...

Tony Stewart would be in 17th place? and
Ryan Newman would be in 27th place?

robby gordon 13th in points :D :D :D
Robby had a very nice run tonight. He was a combination of very lucky and very good to get all those laps back, but he busted his butt and drove his tail off tonight. Just giving credit where it is due.

Until the sunspot activity is over,it looks like both Harvick and Mikey are firmly in the top ten!Surprising to say the least!

Mikey is doing a great job this year!! I hope he does get his first top 10 in points this year!!

some other notables:

dale jarrett back in 23rd in points

steve park in 33rd in points, 6th from worst of drivers who
have raced every race

joe nemecheck 14th in points

robby gordon is only 41 points out of 10th, and he has good tracks coming up for him:
charlotte = top 15 last year
dover = top 10 last year
pocono = top 15 last year
michigan = no comment
infineon = will contend for win
daytona = finished 6th there this year

could be a surprise contender for the stage :bounce: :bounce:

How about good ole Sterling? 10th in points and hadn't even won a race yet. Good job Sterling!

Rusty's 10th place comeback moves him into ninth!! Finally breaks into the top ten.

Hopefully Matt gave him the middle finger as he went by him too ...a little payback for Bristol when Matt was running for the win & Tony wouldn't cut him any slack. Matt was po'd, told Robbie the guy expects us to pull over for him all the time & when it's his turn to return the favor...he flips us off. Matt's spotter (Mike Calinoff) told Matt just to remember that next time!

Would have never guessed Mikey to be in the top 10 three races after Daytona, but I knew Happy would be there. ;)

I expected Mikey up there because he ran just about 8-15 the last half of the season last year.

Im sort of surprised that Junior is second this early. I didn't expect him to get up in the top five untill after he won the pepsi 400 in july.

i thought that Jimmie Johnson would be the one to have the Sophomore slump and not Newman.

It didn't surprise me when comparing these two to Matt & Dale Jr. Matt slumped in 2001 too.

Stevie Wonder could see that coming. Do you really think they would let a whole year go by without an Earnhardt winning at Daytona? :p

hey, its like what DW said. Mikey wins every Daytona Race on Fox. Jr.'s won the Pepsi 400 every year its been on NBC.

Besides NBC will need Nascar's help to spike thier ratings....

I notice you list Nemechek as a surprise. While this may sound strange, I wonder in which direction it is a surprise.

Is that a better or worse performance than expected in Joe's first full season with the team?

Based on what he did in the 26 car, and what he did in the 25 car prior to the arrival of Sospenzo, I did not expect much from him this season. He showed a couple flashes in 2002 in that car, but nothing consistent.

This year he is in the top 15 in points and running very consistently in the top 20, aside from two or three bad runs. He is performing better than I thought he would.
