Okay, I wanna know what everyone thinks about all this points swapping. I do not think it should be allowed unless and only if a team is consolidating from say four cars to three. Then I would say a points swap is okay but these teams like Penske, Petty, WWR that are doing it just to get another car in the show when they cannot even run decent is bogus in my opinion.

If they are going to switch, make them switch car numbers, teams, crews, and everything.

Well I can see everyone is on the same page pretty much. I am surprised that not a lot are in favor if and only if the team is consolidating.

YOU earn what YOU earn.. I dont think they should swap points no matter what the circumstances!!

use to be a challenge to get into cup and earn respect now you just need money and a team owner that has a couple cars and wants your money.

Who's the wierdo that voted yes?

I was wondering the same thing!

I know it doesn't really matter, as he is in the top 35 (barely), but I would accept a points swap between the 00 and the 44. After all, Reutiman is 26th in points, and put himself there. But that's the ONLY time I would support anyone swapping points among cars. It just ain't right.

Changing rules in the middle of the stream is something that has been done forever, and forever, I've been against it. Stopping this would be the same. It's been done for a long time and will continue.

I have been against it sence the DEI mess, that was the first time I had heard of it. It may have happened before, but the was the first for me. Duane

I'm throwing out the bs flag on this points swapping thing.

:bsflag:

It's bs.

i think the teams that are below the top 35 need to face response ability and stick with there drivers. all changing a driver will do is screw two teams overs. they need to limit the past champions provisional. have it be you get 1 provisional for ever title you won.

if NASCAR would take the responsibility in the first place for sponsors and realize that racings tough and not everybody is going to make it every race, then we wouldnt have to watch a bs 10 race playoff where espn makes it seem like the biggest event in racing. And a special segment of qualifying where the below 35 are given there own little qual session to fight each other cause they cant go run with the big boys yet.

Speaking of that, I would like to see a trophy for the regular season (26 races) champion. And, since they are separating the Go or Go Homers for qualifying then when we get to the Chase they need to have the Chase guys all qualify together to make it fair.

Hold the phone. Just saw this on jayski. Now I still say if there's one points swap I would have agreed with, it would've been the 00 and the 44. Now reutimann, who earned his 26 points position, is now just barely in the top 35. But MWR did ask for a swap, but were denied.

Honestly, I don't see what the hell Nascar is doing this year. They give Penske the right to give an unproven driver a gaurunteed spot, but then they deny it for someone who actually earned his way in.

NASCAR said NO to a #44 - #00 pts swap: David Reutimann wanted to keep the points he earned in the #00 car during the first five races of the Sprint Cup season as he makes the switch to the #44 driven by Dale Jarrett for Sunday's race at Martinsville Speedway. NASCAR said no. "They wouldn't let us switch," Reutimann said Friday. "It puts you back almost in the same boat you were before. It's aggravating." Reutimann was 27th in owner's points in the #00. Jarrett, who is retiring, was 34th in the #44 and only 16 points from falling out of the top 35 -- the cutoff for a guaranteed spot in the field for each Sprint Cup race. Michael Waltrip Racing announced last season that Reutimann would replace Jarrett after the first five races. John Darby, the Sprint Cup series director, said point swaps typically are granted only when there is a change in a business function or when an owner is trying to reorganize during the offseason. Sam Hornish Jr., for example, was given Kurt Busch's points at the start of this season as the newest member of Penske Racing so that he would be guaranteed a spot in the first five races. "This was never meant to be used to give a driver the best position he can get," Darby said. "Most people in the garage understand that." Rookie Michael McDowell will inherit Reutimann's points as the new driver of the #00.(ESPN.com)(3-28-2008)

The worst possible thing that could happen in NASCAR is allowing any team to switch owner's points in the middle of the season. At the beginning of the season, it is understandable, though not recommended, to switch owner's points. Allowing this ruins the integrity of the sport. I definitely think it was a great move by Roush Racing and Petty Racing for not switching owner's points. For the first time in a long time, Kyle Petty has missed the field.
