Hi all, who will earn the most Sprint Cup points? Danica Patrick or Ricky Stenhouse Jr.!

How about this ? Will Ricky finish more than ten spots ahead of Danica in the 2013 points ? Now that is more interesting.

I don't see what the big issue is with this poll  They're both running for ROTY and I think it's a fair question.

Yes, he will; and no, it isn't.

But think about it . There would have to be nine drivers who are in worse equipment than Ricky but better equipment than Danica. I think they are both in pretty good equipment ,better than most of the 25th to 43rd place drivers .They should both end up the year between 25th and 43rd. Ricky is obviously the better driver and will accumulate a lot more points, but I'm not sure there will be more than ten positions .I could see Ricky in 25th and Danica in 35th. Maybe.

Going by what Danica showed us last year, she has no business being in Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and I have my doubts that she could even be competitive against 9 year olds in those racing simulators at the mall. Its a joke that she has a fully funded ride in the Cup series while drivers who have actually have the ability to compete are struggling to find sponsorship on third tier teams or sitting on the sidelines altogether. She is exactly what is wrong with the sport...very little talent, no upside, but someone thinks she is marketable so she gets to play while others who actually deserve to be there are shunned. Its ridiculous and it makes me furious.

Tell us how you really feel.

It needs to be said sometimes. If anyone not named Danica Patrick had turned in the performance she did in Nationwide last year, they would be fired, not promoted.

Finishing 10th in NW while driving top 5 equipment didn't earn her a cup ride, but that's the way it is. If she wasn't so marketable, she would have barely held that JRM ride. Cole Whitt had fewer races under his belt and whooped her bad, and he has no ride this year. Who's to blame? The millions of men (and a few select woman) who run out and buy anything Danica is willing to sell while wearing a bikini. But there are a few vets who still have a ride based entirely on popularity or sponsorship. The rookies need to work the crowd and gain fans as they try to move up.

I just hope she actually does something with that ride. Getting respect from the other drivers will be tougher because of the reason she got the ride.

It's about the money and nobody's in the sport to lose it. It's a sponsor driven sport and as long as it is that's the way it will always be. About the only thing that could change that is franchising and it seems most don't want to go there.

I don't see how franchising can work in nascar. With no captive home market to sell to each team for 8 events a year, what would a franchisee be buying? The sponsor would still want a marketable driver in the car. As long as teams are required to earn their share of just 30% of the TV money, sponsors will still control driver choice.

I'm not advocating franchising by any means. Think of it in terms of the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, etc...... The teams aren't financed by sponsors.

My point is that franchising can't work in racing. The other sports have a home arena where they sell ticks for half their games. Since racing requires all teams to race in one place, that can't be done. These franchises also share 50% or more of the TV money and keep venue income, and ISC / SMI aren't about to give up any of their 60% of the TV contract or share more of their track income.

NASCAR isn't other sports. Things don't have to be completely modeled after all the other sports. The Chase is a perfect example of that failed concept.

To get back ob topic...

Ricky should easily finish higher than Danica in the points. His stock car experience alone is a huge advantage. She'll need 3 full seasons in Cup to have any chance of being competitive.

Dick Fitzpatrick.

Feel better? ;)

She has advantages just like the offspring of many drivers, a name will get you in the door but you have to prove you deserve the ride. Time will tell and I'm looking forward to see how it plays out.
