Pook and Ecclestone

CART boss Chris Pook is due to arrive at Silverstone tomorrow in the company of Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone.

There is speculation that there is an announcement about the future of F1 in North America.

CART had an important board meeting on Friday and it is not yet clear what was decided but it is possible that a decision was taken about the plan to sell the company to a new investor.

Those believed to be involved in the bidding are CART team bosses Gerry Forsythe, Paul Gentilozzi, Craig Pollock and his backer Kevin Kalkhoven and Bernie Ecclestone.

The aim of an Ecclestone takeover of CART would be to promote Formula 1 in the United States and to build up CART as a secondary series for the F1 World Championship.

At the same time there are suggestions that Pook's appearance at the British GP may be the result of a plan for a second United States Grand Prix.

The race would be in San Francisco.

It is expected that the story - whatever it may be - will break tomorrow.

CART defintely needs some more money going in. The tide has been turing that CART will be a feeder series. This is going to be huge. :)

A second GP in the states we can handle for sure, but why sanfran?

I think he means Long Beach, not San Fransisco. There was talk of either giving A second U.S Formula One race back to Long Beach or move the one we have from Indy to Long Beach.

CART has basically been a feeder series for everything. Look at the last 5 years or so. Most of the drivers either went to F1, IRL or NASCAR. CART is a joke in my mind. Yeah they go fast but in the off season, CART made a demand of at least an 18 car grid and if that was not achieved then there would be no more CART. Now we have a dozen "Minardi's" out there and it is ruining the sport. Every race is between Newmann-Haas and Players. Maybe Rahal sneeks in there every now and then but not often.

As for another race in the states. We do not need one as secluded as SanFran. All the way on the west coast. Notice Indy in about 3/4 east and not on the coast, you get more people. We need the FIA to get another race in the states but it needs to be well planned out. They need to build a totally new track nearby a rising city in Kansas or Colorado, maybe New Mexico. The track itself need to be a world class facility, newest everything. Plan the seats so other grandstands do not interfere with views as the case in Indy, and put like the Paddock and things like that out side of the track.
When you make a track you have to think of something you want it to be known for. Most people like passing, since F1 tracks nowdays do not have a lot of this.

The US may never get another GP but in the future for other tracks being made to coax F1 there, they need to put some more effort into it and the rewards of popularity, the fans enjoying themselves and if possible the drivers favor of the track then you will be well established.
