Poole, Utter honored
Observer reporters David Poole and Jim Utter were honored for their motorsports coverage Sunday at the National Motorsports Press Association's awards banquet.
Poole won the George Cunningham Award as the writer of the year in the daily/Internet division. He received first-place awards in the columns and features categories and second place in race coverage.
Utter won first- and third-place awards in the spot news category for daily and Internet reporting.
Kenny Bruce of Charlotte-based NASCAR Scene won the George Cunningham Award in the non-daily division.
Former Observer photographer Mark Sluder won the award for best photograph. Mark Rebilas was photographer of the year.
Mark Garrow of the Performance Racing Network was radio broadcaster of the year.
