Just a note guys. Today (Tue, 9-10-02) I had a critical update for Windows ME. Of course I downloaded and installed it as I always do.......after all, it's "critical". Well guess what. I ran adaware after installing the update from Microsoft's Update site (the one that is put on your start menu on installation) and picked up Alexa.....a known spyware program!! Seems Windows update put it in my registry key located at: softwaremicrosoftinternet explorerextensions{c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa03c157a}.
I've heard the rumors about Microsoft putting spyware on before but I always sort of poo-pooed that and figured it was so much crap.........now, I'm not so sure!! Value your privacy, folks you need something to help. I use Adaware from Lavasoft.......it's free and you can download from CNET's download.com. But download.com puts spyware on........so run adaware after you download and install. Pow pop up stopper will help with spyware since pop ups contain spyware in many instances.
