Possibility of going to a Saturday race

Hey, everyone.

I'm planning a trip to one of the tracks for a Saturday race (It has to be a Saturday race because of college). It's going to be a birthday gift for my father. He and I will be really excited for this.

What we're going to do is drive from MA to the track we choose and back, here are the following tracks we selected:

May 1, Richmond
May 8, Darlington
July 10, Chicago
August 21, Bristol
September 11, Richmond
October 16, Charlotte

(I had to drop Phoenix from the list because it was too far, and we have to be back home by the Monday night after the race.)

What I need from you guys is info on which track you think would be the best for us. I'll appreciate any info you share with me. Thanks in advance.

I'd go to The Night Race at Bristol given the chance.

Richmond's a must-see in person as well. But considering they just cut seating to double the seat sizes, I'd be willing to bet tickets are already sold out.

Bristol is certainly a racing experience that every fan should enjoy at least once but Richmond for the 26th race can't be beat either. Don't worry about the fact that they changed seat sizes @ Richmond. They'll have plenty of seats. Just buy them the day they go on sale and there's no problem.

Loudon. It's close enough to make in 4-5 hours from just about anywhere in New England.

Trucks 6/25
NNW & Mods 6/26
Cup 6/27
or
Trucks & Mods 9/18
Cup 9/19

Driving to any of the tracks you mention is a haul, you'd have to be leaving on a Friday. For what you'd spend on the road, gas, food, a motel you could do the three day event in June no sweat.
I'm in RI and know guys who go up early Sat morning and come home after the race. Then return for the Sunday race.:)

I'd go with Richmond.

About the most reasonable motel rates and you can't beat a short track for the action.

Still within driving distance if you don't get too drunk to get up early on Sunday and start driving home. :D

I've been going to Loudon with my family every year since 1998. There's a good chance that I'm already going to both races there this year too. What we're doing is going to one of the tracks I listed in my first post because it's a special birthday gift for my dad. We have no other choice but to drive there because one of my family members doesn't like flying.

Thanks for the info. I should have a final decision soon.

I was going to say loudon, like SST, then I saw your post.

All things considered I would go to Richmond. Good racing and a short track, plus the other tracks are too far a drive.

I did the drive to Bristol last year to see the Mods and the Trucks, great experience did most of the driving myself except for about 2 hours on the way home, took a nap. The drive is easy from Mass, takes about 11 hours from the Springfield area where I'm from. If you want details, just PM me.

Knowing what you're driving and how many will share the driving would help.

Hmmm, my opinion is a bit difference, but take it for what it's worth. While Bristol might be the desired track to attend, getting the tickets might be the hardest thing. If you can get this, I'd recommend it. As to Richmond, that too is a great track, but unless you get seats on the front stretch, I'll honestly say that you will not be satisfied. My recommendation would be Darlington. Who knows how long this storied track will still have racing and it is so different. Everyone can say that they've been to Bristol or Richmond, but Darlington? I say give the old Lady a try.

Best seats I ever had at Richmond were in between turns 3 and 4.

Darlington is pretty far for a one day drive.

agreed, but according to mapquest, only about an hour longer than Bristol. I still think Richmond considering the distance.

if the distance isn't a problem, then by all means, go to Darlington.

Dover is only 6 hrs. from southern R.I.,and well worth the drive.
Dover is like Loudon on steroids!
Look into attending.

I'm thinking that the intent is to see a Saturday Cup race.

That sort of leaves Dover out of the picture.
