Read this morning where Brian France could change the points going into the Chase because of this years points. With Jeff Gordon more than 400 points ahead of Jimmie Johnson, and that Jimmie had more wins than Jeff, it made people in NASCAR wonder if that was such a good idea of giving the driver with the most wins the top spot. They are now thinking about giving the driver who is leading going into the chase, a few more points.

When will this end?

No doubt. Just go back to the old system is what I say...:D

I agree
If it ain't broke don't fix it. We didn't need the chase to begin with.

I agree with everything said here. But it aint gonna happen. NASCAR wants to manufacture "competition" and it will do so. It is good for the ratings, even if it is as blatantly unfair as could be. Why should what someone does over 10 races be more important than what someone does over 26 races? Especially when someone DOMINATED the first 26 races?

I agree totally. I hate the chase, just my opinion. It could be that I am whiney because it has robbed my driver twice now

Well the numbers don't bear you out that it is good for the ratings.

So in 36 races compared from 05 and 06 only 3 races did better in 06 and there was 1 tie. We already know the tracks aren't selling out like they used to this year. Cali 40,000 at a 92,000 seat track. I would love to see some more up to date numbers but I'd be willing to bet they're worse.

Edited to add the 2004 and 2007 numbers.

instead of setting them seeded by win count, keep them seeded as they are, but cut the difference by 90% between EACH position.

so if jeff had a 400 point lead, it'd instead be 40.

Why would you punish the leader that much. Denny had 3335 to Carls 3330. 5 points times 90% = 1 point difference between 3rd and 4th. Jeff really stunk up the points this year. He's been the best for the 26 races leading to the chase. Who ever the points leader is needs to be rewarded for those 26. Maybe cut the points by half. Over 10 races his 317 points over Tony would be cut to 159 which is certainly do-able. And 344/172 over Denny.

Leave it alone. If you want to win be at the top of the game the whole year. If ya blow a motor, crash, have a pit stop, or whatever. tough titty.

Interesting post on those tv ratings barelypure.

What I find interesting is everyone talks about the fall race at Bristol but the spring race gets the most TV viewers and decidely so. But the overall trend for nearly all the races has been slipping.
