Someone do the math. Jimmie runs decent at the remaining tracks. How high does he have to finish in order to win the championship? Top 10, top 15?

Don't hate on 48.

Just like other sports, you're going to have years when a certain teams dominate. Clearly, Jimmie and Chad have this figured out. I think this reflects badly on all the other teams more than it does Jimmie.

Assuming all drivers race the way they are doing now, it would be a closer title fight under the old system.

Under the old points system, the top 3 would loook slightly different:

1 - Tony Stewart 4544
2 - Jimmie Johnson -117
3 - Jeff Gordon -139

Assuming all drivers race the way they are doing now, it would be a closer title fight under the old system.

The only reason it would be close is because Tony has been driving like crap for the last couple months, while Jimmie has been taking everyone to school.

Under the old system, having good finishes at the start of the season, and driving like crap at the end can win you plenty of Championships. With the Chase format you need to drive OK at the start of the year, and save all your effort for the final 10 races.

Apparently, the #48 team is the only one to figure this out.
