Power Ratings

First off, let me say that the point system is still the same. I think it's a good system, so I didn't mess with it. I'll recap the system for the newbies:

1st - 200
2nd - 180
3rd - 170
4th -160
-5 point drop down to 16th paying 100 points; 3 point drop down to 41st and worse (and all non-qualifiers) recieving 25 points

-10 points for the pole, 5 for the outside pole
-5 points for leading one lap, 10 for leading the most laps
-25 point penalty for filing a late entry blank

Now, for the changes I made. The system last year was that the 18 most recent races were counted, with the last 6 being triple-weighted. For this year, I cut the number of races factored in from 18 to 12, and will factor them in this way: 4 most recents races are triple weighted; next four are double-weighted; and the four before those are single-weight. This reduces a major problem with the old system, which was that a driver would have a strong run, but drop in the ratings, because a better race lost it's triple-weight status. By introducing this "phase-out" method, it should make this occurence less frequent. And by having 12 race count instead of 18, it give a better idea of who's on the rise and who's in a slump.

The last change I made was to extend the ratings from the top-40 to the top-43. I did this since the number of full-time teams is up to 42, and 43 just seemed right, since that's the full field for a race anyway. This means that (at least) one part-time time will make the list each week, usually somewhere near the bottom. :D
