NASCAR does early inspection of title contenders' Homestead cars

AVONDALE, Ariz. - NASCAR officials on Thursday confirmed they required the three Sprint Cup teams still in the hunt for the series championship to submit the cars they plan to run in the season finale to pre-race inspection.

Earlier this week, the teams of Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick were required to take the cars they plan to use next week at Homestead, Fla., to NASCAR's research and development center in Concord, N.C., for a precautionary inspection.

Officials confirmed all three cars met template measurements.

NASCAR received a lot of criticism when it levied harsh penalties on driver Clint Bowyer after his car failed inspection at the R&D center days after his win in the opening race of the Chase for the Cup at New Hampshire.

With two races left in the Chase, Hamlin holds a 33-point lead over Johnson and a 59-point advantage over Harvick.

I gues that is what the fans wanted, at least on this forum. I don't know how Nascar (or the teams) can do it in the future . Hopefully this is a final race deal only.

It seems that they're just wanting to make sure that they don't run into Bowyer type issues during/after that last weekends event.

well it's good to know that they would pass a post-race inspection at the r&d center now. i'm sure those cars will be hermetically sealed and not touched again before homestead. <g>

That's what I was thinking. But I don't think any of these teams will chance throwing away a championship for trying to sneak something by NASCAR.

So, the other forty-some drivers have no real importance at all?

What a statement NA__AR makes!

WWND?

WHAT WOULD NA$CAR DO??

One of the chosen 3 wins, runs out of gas and is pushed by a wrecker to VL.
Or has been bump drafted hard during the race.

At the R & D center they find the rear is out of spec by say,,oh .060.

I'm not sure I agree with this pre-pre-race inspection.

Smells of conspiracy if you ask me.....:growl::growl:

If it's the 48 they do nothing. The 11 I'm not really sure. The 29 they fine the hell out of him.

Would you really expect NASCAR to take all 40+ cars attempting to make the field to the R&D facility for pre-race inspection?
No, I would expect NA__AR to inspect ALL the cars as they usually do. Putting so special of emphasis on these there this week just shows to the extend that this entire playoff format is overblown. Why does the rest of the entrants even have to show up? The show is all about the playoff finalists, the remainder of the schlumps are just supporting actors. Don't worry, whoever broadcasts the thing Sunday will NOT let anyone who watches forget that basic fact.

If that be the case, then I hope the other 40 go out there and race the thing like there's no tomorrow.

Good luck on that wish. Most, but hopefully not all of the ones, outside of the Royal Twelve, will be more concerned with staying out of the way of the leaders. Woe be it to any who would put one or two of the main three out of competition. That would rain rather heavily on the parade of the "Suits" in Daytona Beach.

Nope , after inspection they gave them back.

I don't think that there is any possible way to enforce such a notion. Even if Nascar wanted to protect the top three , it would be impossible . And I think that there is a strong possibility that one of them will be involved in an incident in one of the two races. This is the "boys have at it" era , get used to it, there will be no penalties.

I think it would be hilarious if only the three cars that can possibly win the cup showed up at Homestead. :D

Seems kinda stupid then to do a pre-pre-inspection and then give the cars back with over a week to go before the race?Oh wait that's right this is NASCAR we are talking about.Nevermind.

If that's your belief, more power to you.
