NASCAR announced plans today for a new preseason fan-oriented event that will coincide with the annual NASCAR Preseason Thunder test sessions in January at Daytona International Speedway. "NASCAR Preseason Thunder Fan-Fest at Daytona" will involve drivers from all three of NASCAR's national series - the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, the NASCAR Busch Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Those three series test Jan.6-22 at Daytona. All three series open the 2004 season at Daytona International Speedway in February. Combining the preview event with the other activities surrounding NASCAR Preseason Thunder will give fans more opportunities to enjoy NASCAR in the city where the sport was founded in 1948 at Daytona Beach. Fans will be able to watch their favorite teams test cars for the new season, see and interact with their favorite drivers, visit the Daytona USA attraction and tour Daytona International Speedway. In addition, the new event will continue to benefit multiple charities. NASCAR will release more details on the "NASCAR Preseason Thunder Fan-Fest at Daytona" in the near future.(NASCAR PR)

I would imagine that it is, fergy. Wasn't it usually held in NC just before winter testing at Daytona?

I've had friends tell me about standing out in the ice/snow/rain and being just really miserable.

Yep, I think it was in Charlotte.....

Seems like another tradition gone...but then again, in about 5 years, NASCAR will be nothing like it was yesterday.

This IS replacing the T. Watyne Robertson (Robinson?) preview that was held every January in WINSTON-SALEM, NC (home of RJR).

Some of the drivers have previously said they HATE this idea of moving it to Daytona. They wanted it to stay in WInston-Salem or move to Charlotte.

Why don't the teams all get together and continue the "Preview" in NC.? ;)

I'm now reading rumors that this won't be a one day event as in the past. NASCAR is basically going to combine it with testing and spread it out over the course of the 2 weeks of testing. Sounds like an effort to get more fans to come to the pre-season testing.

Also sounds like it will bomb.

When this was a 1 day event, I might have been able to got it, but if it's spread out over 2 weeks, I can't do that.
